Shield Of Favour
This is the year of the supernatural and this is the month of supernatural beginnings. Our Lord is opening supernatural realms for all of you.
Focus word is FAVOUR
PSALM 5: 12 - For You, Oh Lord, will bless the righteous, You surround them with favour as with a shield.
Some Bible translations say ‘mercy’ surrounds you. I encourage you to keep on repeating the focus word and the declaration many times throughout the day. The favour of God is sometimes misunderstood; it may be mistakenly referred to as ‘luck’. Favour is God’s gracious hand working on behalf of His people. If the favour of the Lord is upon us, His unseen hands will always be working for us. God will position us in a way that His favour speaks for us. It will always be upon us.
David wrote this psalm at a time when he was facing great opposition. He was being unjustly persecuted. Enemies surrounded him, but the favour of God was always with him. God’s favour does not just visit us, but surrounds us like a shield. A shield does not decorate you, it protects you in battle.
Favour is God’s invisible advantage. Favour attracts the right people to notice you. He protects you from unseen harm. Psalm 91 - He protects you from hidden dangers(from the fowler’s snare). God opens doors that you are unable to force open. Favour works quietly but powerfully. Doors open for the people who are under the favour of God. Good things happen in their lives and they are able to move forward.
God’s favour is going to surround you like a shield. Favour surrounds - it goes before you, it comes behind you and all around you. Favour walks in front of you making the way, it is beside you - meaning, it supports you. It is behind you - protecting you from your past mistakes.
Favour is connected to righteous alignment, not protection. Favour gives us right connections, right relationships. David says in the psalm - You bless the righteous. Righteousness does not mean sinless perfection, it means right standing and right direction. Favour flows when your heart is aligned with God. Favour flows when your choices honour God; your walk reflects submission to God. Favour is not earned, but it flows freely where alignment exists - where a heart connection with God is present. Favour changes outcomes without changing circumstances. Sometimes God does not remove the barrier, but He blesses you with favour in the middle of it. He does not take you out of the battle, but releases His favour in the middle of the battle. Where others are defeated in these circumstances, God will promote those under His favour that they grow tall and strong.
Gen 26 - Isaac, son of Abraham, plants crops at a time when the land is passing through severe drought. There is no rain and the crops have all been destroyed. But Isaac brought in a hundredfold harvest because of the favour of God that had passed on to him through his father Abraham.
So, what can you expect this year? God is going to turn delays into ‘setups’. You may have been facing a lot of delays, but God will set everything up in such a manner that you will see a breakthrough in your life. He will turn opposition into opportunities and resistance into testimonies.
When we tend to think about favour, Joseph’s life comes to mind. Joseph, even though the favourite of his father, went through many hardships. He was jailed many times, faced many hardships, was sold as a slave by his own brothers. He experienced betrayal, false accusations of molestation and imprisonment. This is the same person who received dreams from God. He had no voice in the land because he was a slave and not a citizen. But the Scripture repeatedly says “God was with Joseph”. The Holy Spirit, repeatedly during each misfortune says the hand of God was with Joseph - when he was in prison and when he was in the house of Potiphar.
Favour converted this prisoner into an administrator. God is going to convert you too into a person of position, even though you may be suffering misfortunes at present. Favour turned a slave into a ruler. Favour lifted Joseph without revenge or manipulation.
Illustration: Imagine yourself in an unexpected and heavy downpour. Suddenly an umbrella appears above you. You look around and everybody else is getting wet, but you are covered and protected by the umbrella. The rain has not stopped, but your circumstance has changed. You have escaped the rain; this is how the favour of God works in your life. Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
