Walk in Power (Anointing)
Walk in Power! (Anointing)
Walk in Power! (Anointing)
Today’s focus word is ‘Anointing’ and the focus verse is ….
1Jn 2.20 which says, “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.”
Declaration: The Holy Spirit’s anointing empowers me to live victoriously and bless others today.
Anointing is a favourite topic for me and this is one of my all-time favourite verses. I remember preaching this verse in many conferences, crusades and especially in the ‘Set the Nations on Fire’ conference and each time, there was a mighty release of anointing.
4 points to ponder …..
1.The Anointing is God within you.
The experience of God residing in you is ‘Anointing.’ It is not external but is the in dwelling presence and power of the Holy Spirit! It is the anointing in us, which comes from above and operates within. When Jesus ministered, the power came from within Him under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and flowed to the woman who was bleeding, to the crippled, to the lepers, and to all who approached Him. He was the distribution hub!
The power from within gives the experience of the anointing residing in us. Many are under the misunderstanding that we experience anointing only when we minister or attend church or pray diligently in fellowship, while on all other days, Mon – Sat, the experience is little or not there. We feel it powerfully on Sunday, especially during worship and Word. But that is not so.
1Jn 2.27 - The anointing you received remains (abides) in you. When the Holy Spirit dwells in you, you become His housing, address, His dwelling. 1Cor 3.16, 6.19 – you are God’s temple, His mansion. The Holy Spirit operates in us - we are His house! Sometimes He may not be operational but He is still there. When praying for the sick, or ministering the Word or worshipping God; the Holy Spirit’s anointing is then active and operates from within us. 1Cor 6.19 reminds us, Our body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. Jn 14.17 says, “He lives with you and will be with you.”
We use electrical appliances. They need to be connected to a power source to work, to function properly. A power cut or a loose contact will cause it to be inoperable.
The anointing is the power source of a believer’s life!
Working under the control of the Holy Spirit is very easy, so effortless and we don’t need to struggle in our own efforts.
2.The Anointing Teaches and Guides into Truth.
Anointing is a teacher, a Rabbi. Even if no one teaches us, the Holy Spirit’s anointing, if it resides in us, will reveal valuable lessons through life experiences, ministry, the Word. He is like a professor, a mentor! Unlike other professors who are limited to their core subject; the anointing is able to teach us about the present life, future, our past, about the Word, about the universe, any topic; He can reveal to us the hidden truths for He is very qualified and able.
1Jn 2.20 says, “….. and all of you know the truth.” Anointing leads us to truth. It stirs up the anointing, the fire in you. The Holy Spirit gives you discernment, understanding, and spiritual clarity.
Jn 16.13 reminds us that the Spirit of truth will guide you!
1Cor 2.12 speaks, “…. We have received the Spirit from God.”
Many do not know about God. Atheists, critical thinkers do not believe in the existence of God. Even believers who do not heed the guidance of the Holy Spirit, are clueless about God.
If you want to understand God, you need the help of His Spirit that proceeds from God – the Holy Spirit. If we are to know and understand God, the Holy Spirit needs to come into us to reveal the knowledge and understanding of God. 1Cor 2.12 – speaks of how the man understands what comes from man; but that of the spirit is only understood through the Holy Spirit. We can write books, songs and even preach about God but only if the Holy Spirit resides in us can we know, understand and receive revelation about God. So just ignore what people speak about God. A person who has received the Holy Spirit in him will get revelation and understanding about God.
Ps. 25.9 says, “He guides the humble in what is right….” The anointing that is in us will teach us. He is a teacher and reveals to us as we read the Word, and listen to it. The best opportune time to learn about God is when the Word is being preached; if you are able to connect and stay connected in the spirit, then you would receive more revelation than what is being preached by the anointed preacher. When our spirit connects with the Holy Spirit, we receive more revelation.
3. The Anointing empowers for purpose
Anointing purifies an individual for a particular purpose. The purpose of anointing is to strengthen and equip each individual effectively for a particular work, task or ministry according to God’s calling. For example, some people are called to be teachers or apostles or engineers or home makers. The anointing of the Holy Spirit is tasked to help them to work effectively in their station or calling.
Acts 10.38 speaks of how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil because God was with Him.
Isa 10.27 – The yoke will be broken because of the anointing. The anointing in us has the power to break yokes!
Lk 4.18 – The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me. God’s Spirit is upon me.
Declare – God’s anointing is upon me.
I had a passion for tools. I would use them effectively. Similarly, when the anointing of the Holy Spirit works in us we become effective in the purpose. The anointing activates our calling and makes us effective.
4.The anointing must be honoured and maintained.
It is a free gift and must be valued and cultivated without losing it. In Corona times, I would minister over zoom platforms in other fellowships. Once the host pastor, just before introducing me, warned the congregation not to engage in any activity that would cause them to lose their anointing. He started crying as soon as he said that. I understood how much that host valued and honoured the anointing that was upon him.
Eph 4.30 says, “And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.”
2Tim 1.6 says, “…. fan into flame the gift of God, ….”
Gal 5.25 says, “…. Keep in step with the Spirit” as the Holy Spirit leads you. For a flame or fire to be sustained, it needs fuel – firewood, diesel, oil to feed it or keep it burning. Paul instructed Timothy not to neglect his anointing but to fan it into flame. More oxygen, more flame. We all need to sustain the anointing we have received, at all times.
Let’s pray!
