Don’t Miss Your Calling
The focus word for today is ‘Obedience to Vision’.
The focus verse for today is Acts 26:19 says,“So then, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.”
The declaration for today is ‘I follow God’s vision with complete obedience today; heaven backs my steps of faith.’
Vision Requires A Response, Not Mere Admiration
When you have a vision, you must pursue it, run behind it, chase it and follow it through. You must steer your life as per the direction of your vision. It is not merely important to admire it, but you must persevere. In Acts 26:19 Paul says, “…I was not disobedient to the vision from heaven.”
So many people get heavenly visions but they don't often follow through. Many times people tell me that I saw a vision back in the day, however they have no proof to show that they have lived their life as per this vision. Paul reiterates that he followed through on the vision heaven entrusted with him. Many celebrate revelation, but do not respond to it. Vision is not given for applause, it is given for action.
Many consider Jesus to be the founder of Christianity, he is known as a teacher and a prophet among many. Now when someone tells you that Jesus is in fact a person, that he came down from heaven, bore ours sins and shame and forgave all our sins, then you must believe it and declare that Jesus is your Saviour and you will live out the rest of your years for him and to glorify his name. The moment you get the revelation, you must act on it.
Habakkuk 2:2 says, ‘ Then the Lord replied: 'Write down the revelation and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it.’
As soon as you get the vision you must act on it, you should run with it.
James 1:22 says, ‘Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.’
When you listen to the Word of God, it is important that you understand it and imbibe it, otherwise it becomes a wasted vision.
Luke 11:28 says, ‘ He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
There is widespread evangelism taking place all across the globe, to an extent to which you cannot escape the Word of God. But it’s surely not enough to just listen to the Word of God. You must try to understand it and put it into practice. Vision ignored becomes a burden. If you have a vision from the Lord and you ignore that vision and remain reluctant to act on it, then the vision itself becomes a burden. You will have a feeling of guilt and a nagging sensation at the back of your mind always making you feel torn between your vision and your actions. To spread the Word of God is a mission entrusted to each of us. And as stewards of God’s faithfulness we should spread the good Word, at least by talking about God to those who are near and dear to us.
Vision obeyed becomes a pathway. For instance, if a person merely looks at a google map and admires the way the direction is displayed without actually moving towards that direction then they are not going to reach their destination. In the same way, if you merely admire the vision that God gives you without acting on it, then you are missing the direction in which God wants to mold your life. Heavenly vision must become earthly movement.
Obedience Often Begins With Disruption
When you get a vision or a direction from God and you set about towards that direction, often it brings disruption into your life. Paul’s heavenly vision interrupted his former path. Paul’s identity, his routines, his reputation, even his name changed from Saul to Paul. Saul lived in a very comfortable environment, until God revealed himself to Saul. Once Saul became Paul, his path was guided by the Lord and the people who once looked at him with reverence, imprisoned him and harmed him in every way. When Godly vision comes into your life, know that it often brings disruption, but that is temporary and should not steer you away from the path laid out for you.
Acts 9:6 says, ‘“Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”’
When Saul was on his way to Damascus, he in fact held with him the first anti-conversion religious bill. And this when God chose to reveal himself to Saul. When Godly vision entered his life, the route changed, the path changed, the entire course of his life changed.
Genesis 12:1 says, ‘The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’
Matthew 4:19 says, ‘“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.”’
In all these verses, you see the turning point when God spoke to them and their lives took a completely different route. When you get Godly vision, you will move away from the old and steer yourself to the new. When God comes into your life with disruption, do not be afraid, do not turn away, it just might just be your doorway to his assignment for you. If God shows you a doorway, do not be afraid of the society or people around you, focus on your vision from God. Trust the Lord, he will take care of everything.
Obedience to Vision Demands Persistence
Paul obeyed not for a day, but for a lifetime. Vision is proven through consistency and not excitement.
Galatians 6:9 says, ‘Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.’
Hebrews 10:36 says, ‘You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.’
Philippians 3:14 says, ‘I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.’
You might get a Godly vision in a moment’s time, but how many of us actually carry it through different seasons of our lives? This is a question that we must ask ourselves. So many of us hear the Word on a daily basis, but how many of us have stood the test of time in our faith? It is our commitment to our vision that upholds our faith. We must be stewards of our faith in Lord Jesus Christ and we must strongly be committed to the vision placed in our hearts. So stay faithful, even progress feels slow.
Obedience to Vision Produces Kingdom Impact
If we stay committed to the vision God has entrusted to us, then that produces great kingdom impact. Paul’s obedience reached cities, kings, kingdoms and generations. One obedient life can have far reaching influence. There are many who’ve had godly calling, but a few stick to that commitment and vision. Those who have stayed strong in their commitment will be blessed and through them many others will also be blessed.
Acts 26:22-23 says. ‘22 But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— 23 that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles.”
Romans 12:18-19 says, ‘18 If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. 19 Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord.’
2 Timothy 4:7 says, ‘I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.’
Vision is personal in calling, but public in impact. A single lamp lit in one room can ignite many other lamps without losing its flame. Your obedience can light lives you might never meet.
My message to you today is, hold on to the vision the Lord has given you. Show commitment, confidence and faith in the Lord because then heaven’s vision becomes Earth’s testimony.
