Title: Overflow is coming! (Overflow)
Today’s focus word is ‘Overflow’ and the focus verse is from Ps. 23. 5 - 6
“My cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life.”
Declaration: I end this month in overflow; surely goodness and mercy pursue me continually.
Points to ponder include:
1.Overflow begins with God’s presence.
In the presence of God, one experiences the filling to an overflowing. My cup overflows, not by human effort but by God’s presence.
Ps. 16.11 tells us, ‘In your presence, there is fullness of joy.’
In Jn 10.10, Jesus says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” That’s ‘Life in abundance!’
Eph 3.19 speaks of “Filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.” We are called to be filled with the goodness of God.
An illustration would be a reservoir. It doesn’t fill on its own. Water flows into it. In the US, there is a water tank for each county. Similarly, we have 4000L capacity tanks in our neighbourhood. In all cases, water has to be pumped into it; it never fills on its own. There is a constant supply and when it happens continuously, an overflow occurs.
2.Overflow means more than enough.
Fill a cup beyond measure and it overflows onto the saucer. Overflow is not sufficiency but abundancy beyond need, requirement.
2Cor 9.8 says, “…… abound in every good work.” God wishes his children to be filled with blessings to a point of overflow. This flows to others and becomes a blessing to them.
Deut. 28. 1 – 14 speaks of abundance, not in debt to anyone but a giver to many.
Our shortcoming is that we don’t grow to that standard.
Mal 3.10 speaks of ‘Blessing poured out beyond storage.’ Declare – ‘Beyond Storage.’ It was an era of plentiful in Joseph’s times – more warehouses were constructed to store the abundant harvest.
When we stand for God and honour and respect Him, God will bless us in abundance beyond our storage capacity. Amen!
Phil 4.19 affirms – ‘God supplies all your needs.’
But be careful and attentive not to waste the overflow God has given us, because it is to bless others.
In Jn 6, Jesus multiplies the bread. He instructs the disciples to collect the leftovers, 12 baskets full – no wastage.
If God gives to overflowing, do no waste; it is for others.
3.Overflow impacts others around you.
You experience overflow, it influences all around you. Overflow is never meant to stay contained. Share it with others. It becomes a blessing to them.
Gen 12. 2- ‘You will be a blessing!’ Declare – ‘I am a blessing.’
Jn 7. 38 says, “……rivers of living water will overflow….” from a person, an individual who believes in God.
Pro 11.25 says, “…. whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” A lighted lamp will give light not just to a person alone but to all around it. An example of selflessness. Let your light shine to others. Let your blessing overflow to others. I pray for such an experience for you.
A life in overflow blesses others!
4.Overflow is sustained by God’s goodness and love.
Ps.23. 5-6 - ‘Surely goodness and love (mercy in some versions) will follow me.’ The foundation of ‘Overflow’ is God’s goodness, love, mercy, faithfulness and so forth.
I prophesy that whatever scarcity you experience in your life will be changed by God to abundance, that is overflowing. Get ready with your vessels – blessings for others, even for nations, churches, will flow from you!
Some scriptures to ponder –
Lam 3.22 – 23, the essence being, ‘His mercies are new every morning.’
Ps.36. 7-8 says, ‘People feast on the abundance of Your house.’ When God blesses a person or a nation, it is always in abundance. When God blessed the nation under Solomon’s reign, silver was in surplus that it had the value of rocks alone. The people prospered, the palace and the temple too prospered. I pray that this kind of abundance enters your dwelling.
Rm 8.38-39 reminds us, ‘Nothing can separate us from God’s love.’ There are 17 reasons which show why one cannot be detached from the love of Christ. It is a big consolation, relief to know this especially when we land in sin and worry about losing God’s love. But there is one reason which detach us from God’s love. We ourselves with our unbelief can detach us from God’s love.
But God’s goodness and mercy (Ps. 23.5-6) is like a shadow that follows us right through our lifetime.
Surely, goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life!
Let’s pray!
