Hope has a Name
Today’s focus word is HOPE.
Focus verse of the day is, Romans 15:13 says, ‘May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.’
Declaration for the day: My heart is filled with divine hope. I expect miracles and see God’s goodness.
As per the Bible, hope is not wishful thinking. It is not a sense of optimism. Hope is a confident expectation rooted in God. Hope is placing your confidence in God, when you don’t have qualifications or background to receive that good news, but it is confidence that God will come through despite the uncertainties and the mountain before you. It is the confidence in God that he will surround your situation.
Many life coaches and master classes encourage you to stand in front of the mirror and proclaim positive statements to yourself, however the objective behind such exercises is to build your self-confidence. However, the true meaning of Hope is not this. It does not lie in self-confidence or shouting out statements such as “I am able…”. The true meaning of Hope is that, my God is able and because my God is able, I can achieve what I set out to achieve.
I believe that today, God is going to restore vision for the future and strength for the journey ahead by filling our hearts with divine hope.
God is the giver of HOPE. By the power of the Holy Spirit, our hearts will overflow with hope. When we trust the Lord, we will experience a sense of joy and peace, with our hearts overflowing with hope. Our God is not just the giver of hope, but he is the GOD OF HOPE. Hope flows from God’s nature. The progression of hope is such that, at first he fills us with JOY, then PEACE and the result of it all is overflowing HOPE. Hope is produced as we trust in him. It is not when our circumstances improve or situations change, but Godly hope is produced as we lean on to him and trust in him. Even when things do not change, hope grows. When situations come crashing down, joy, peace and happiness are not emotions that you feel. You might feel depressed and gloomy. Oftentimes your hope in that moment is for the situation to change. Hope is then knowing that no situation is permanent. In God, even if circumstances do not change, your hope will never fail as it is deeply rooted in our unchanging God.
Hope is a person and not a possibility. Hope is God. The Bible does not say that hope comes from positive thinking. As Romans 15:13 says, Hope comes from God. God fills with joy and peace resulting in an overflow of hope. God’s nature itself is hope, in him there is fullness of hope. Hope is not built on statistics or predictions, or human guarantees, but it comes from God. Our hope should be built on God’s character, as he is an unchanging God. If God is present in your life, then hope is present in your life. Sometimes even if we have God in our lives, we have no hope, and that happens when we don’t trust the Lord. Hope is fueled by trusting the Lord. The word ‘trust’ is key.
Hope increases when we stop trying to control outcomes.
Hope increases when we choose to trust in God’s wisdom.
Hope increases when we surrender timelines to him.
When we try to control our situations, it breeds anxiety. Trusting in the Lord releases hope. Hope grows where trust lives. Hope overflows by the power of the Holy Spirit.
We cannot manufacture hope in us. It is the Holy Spirit that brings an overflow of hope within us. The Holy Spirit revives hope in weary hearts. The Holy Spirit restores hope after disappointment. It is the Holy Spirit that can rekindle hope when our faith feels low. Hope shapes how we see the future; what it tells us is that - God is not finished with us. Hope says my best days are not behind me. Hope says, what God promised, he will deliver.
Let’s look at hope this way. Hope is like a headlight, it does not show us the bigger picture, it just shows our immediate next step. This is how we must go forward in our lives. We will never know how our lives will turn out, but with hope we can take the next step.
