MERCY
FOCUS VERSE: Psalm 23: 6 - Surely Your goodness and mercy will follow me all of my days…
DECLARATION: Mercy surrounds me today; God’s goodness covers my past and secures my future.
Mercy is not just our prayer but God’s pursuit of His children: God pursues us with His goodness and mercy. Things that follow us - shadow, people with bad intentions, dogs, etc. God’s goodness and mercy follows us like two faithful dogs taking in the scent of the master all through our life. But this blessing begins with - The Lord is my shepherd. This mercy is not passive; it actively pursues us.
Lamentations 3: 22, 23 - His mercies are new every morning.
Psalm 103: 10 - He does not treat us as our sins deserves or repay us according to our iniquities.
Luke 15: 20 - The father runs towards his son.
God’s mercy comes looking for us even when we fail.
Mercy covers what we deserve: Mercy means we do not receive the punishment we deserve.
Titus 3: 5 - He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy. He saved us through the washing or rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
Hebrews 8: 12 - For I will forgive their wickedness and I will remember their sins no more.
Micah 7: 18 - ……..God delights to show mercy.
The above verse clearly states that it is His delight to show mercy - this is because of His Father’s heart. God has every right to punish us but He chooses to show mercy and this we receive through Christ Jesus.
Mercy sustains us daily: God’s mercy follows us all the days of our lives. Mercy is not a one-time experience, but a daily supply. We are told that we can approach God at any time to receive His mercy.
Hebrews 4: 16 - Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.
Psalm 86: 5 - You, Lord, are forgiving and good, abounding in mercy to all who call to You.
Here, we need to understand the nature and character of our God. Take for example, our breathing pattern. We breathe in and breathe out ‘24X7’ without having a second thought. We do not stop breathing for a second, if we do, we are lifeless. This is a way to explain the mercy of God. We need His mercy around the clock.
2 Samuel 24: 14 - His mercy is great.
Mercy transforms and restores: God’s mercy not only forgives, but restores and lifts us up.
Ephesians 2: 4 and 5 - Because of His great love for us, God, who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions - it is by grace you have been saved.
1 Peter 1: 3 - …. In His great mercy He has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
It is through the mercy of God that we are born again.
Psalm 51: 1 - Have mercy on me, Oh God, according to Your unfailing love: according to Your great compassion bolt out my transgressions.
Most times, it is when we get closer to God that we are able to enjoy His mercy. His mercy restores broken lives and gives them a new meaning.
