DEPENDENCE ON GOD
DEPENDENCE ON GOD
DEPENDENCE ON GOD
FOCUS WORD: DEPENDENCE ON GOD
FOCUS VERSE: Proverbs 3: 5 - Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.
DECLARATION: I depend fully on the Lord today; His wisdom and guidance make my path secure.
Trust begins where self-reliance ends: It is only when you surrender completely to God that you see His work unfolding in your life. Dependence on God is not a sign of weakness as some might think - it is actually spiritual wisdom. Human understanding is limited, as is our perspective on matters related to us. We think and plan for a season or a year or two at the most. God’s time is for the eternal and, since He is all-knowing there is no need to waste time or effort in making extensive plans by ourselves. Our God is the Ancient of Days - from generation to generation.
Isaiah 55: 8 - For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord.
Jeremiah 17: 7 - Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord.
Psalm 20: 7 - …..but we trust in the Name of our Lord.
Faith grows when control is entrusted to God. trust follows confidence in the Guide, our Holy Spirit.
Dependence on God requires daily connection: dependence is not occasional emergency prayer, but a continual relationship with the Father. Be connected to God in daily fellowship. Man, however upright, has many failings; no one is perfect but God alone. Jesus is the perfect model for every person to follow.
John 5: 19 - ….the Son can do nothing of His own accord.
Psalm 121: 1 and 2 - I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Lamentations 3: 25 - The Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him.
Daily dependence keeps the soul alight in the Lord. As Jesus lives in the Father, we too are to live in Jesus, then He leads us beyond human understanding - ‘lean not on your own understanding. Jesus compares our relationship with the Father as the branches of a grape vine. If the branches are cut off, it slowly dries up and dies. Similarly, we too will dry up without our noticing it if we do not follow a continuous relationship with God.
God’s guidance may at times seem incomprehensible: Noah was instructed to build an ark when he and the others had not seen rain. But without questioning, Noah went ahead by faith and in obedience to build the ark. When the floods came only Noah and his family of seven were saved. Abraham was instructed to leave his kith and kin and migrate from the land of Ur to an unknown land, no given destination. By faith, he packed up and left for the new land even though he had no idea where it was.
Hebrews 11: 8 - Abraham obeyed and went.
2 Corinthians 5: 7 - …for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Peter walked on water by faith and as instructed by Jesus.
Isaiah 30: 21 - And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, "This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.
Dependence on God without trusting Him completely will not work - it has to be a hundred per cent commitment even when there is no explanation.
Dependence on God brings stability and direction: He alone can make the crooked paths straight and the rough edges smooth. In the beginning we may not understand His ways but after a while we see God’s plans unfolding for our good. Faith is obedience even when we do not understand the plans He has prepared for us and this is pleasing to Him.
Hebrews 11: 6 - And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who seek Him.
Psalm 32: 8 - I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go.
James 1: 5 - If you lack wisdom, ask of God.
Proverbs 16: 9 - He establishes our steps.
God directed lives can avoid unwanted detours. Many people waste many seasons of their lives without looking to the direction of God. It is after many failures that they finally turn back to the Lord for His guidance. It may not be easy but it is wise to walk according to the directions of God. His blessings will be upon us.
