Freedom From Fear

14 January, 2022

Fear is of two types: positive and negative. Positive fear is something that is needed in everyone’s life. This is the fear of God which comes from the Holy Spirit. This is not a bad fear, instead not being god-fearing is the bad thing.
Matthew 10:28 “Do[a] not be afraid of those who kill the body[b] but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the one who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.[c]”
Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”
Proverbs 1:7 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
Proverbs 14:27 “The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life”
Proverbs 16:6 “Through love and faithfulness sin is atoned for; through the fear of the LORD evil is avoided.”
When we lose the fear of God, we fall into sin easily. Throughout the Bible, we see that God specifies that a leader must be a man who has the fear of the Lord. This is not the fear that God will put us in hell, but it is a fear coming out of love and reverence and worship. Without this fear, we lose our balance.
Negative fear comes from the devil. Many of us gripped by the spirit of fear, this is driven out in the name of Jesus. This causes us to fear worldly things like the future, losing a job, etc.
Genesis 3:8-10 8 Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. 9 But the LORD God called to the man, “Where are you?” 10 He answered, “I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid.”
Fear originated from sin. This made them afraid to have fellowship with God as well, they ran and hid from Him.
When we are aware that God is with us, we do not have this fear. Throughout the BIble God says “Do not fear, I am with you”. This knowledge can free us from fear.
Romans 8:15 “ The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”
When we receive this spirit instead, we call God, “Abba father” and do not fear. Perfect love drives out fear.
Another reason for fear is false belief
2 Corinthians 10:3-5 “For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Our mind is the battlefield. The devil tries to make strongholds in our minds through false beliefs and this causes us to fear. God desires to free us from these strongholds.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give us a Spirit of fear but of power and love and self-control.
We should pray to be set free from negative fears and to be filled with the fear of God alone.
