Focus Word: Joy
Focus Verse: Psalm 126:3 says “The Lord has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.”
Declaration: My heart overflows with joy; I celebrate God’s faithfulness and goodness today.

What is joy?
Joy flows from remembering God’s works.
Joy increases when we remember what God has already done.

Psalm 103:2 says Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits

When we constantly remember all the good that God has done in our life, this generates joy and this joy becomes our strength.

1 Samuel 7:12 says Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, “Thus far the Lord has helped us.”

Remembering God’s past faithfulness, strengthens present joy and future journey.

Joy is a decision, not a reaction.
Joy is not dependent on circumstances, it is a response to God’s faithfulness.

Habakkuk 3:17-18 says Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet i will rejoice in the Lord, i will be joyful in God my saviour.  

Philippians 4:4 says Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Paul wrote the letters in the book  of Philippians with tremendous joy and he wrote Galatians while angry.

Nehemiah 8:10 says Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

Joy grows when we recognise God’s hand.
Recognising God’s hand in daily life increases gratitude and joy.

James 1:17 says Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Psalms 118:24 says The Lord has done it this very day; let us rejoice today and be glad.

Romans 8:28 says And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Joy strengthens and sustains life.
Joy is not just an emotion, it is a source of strength coming from the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17 says For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,

The real joy is coming from the right-hand side of the Father through the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 16:11 says You make known to me the path of life;
    you will fill me with joy in your presence,
    with eternal pleasures at your right hand.

Isaiah 12:3 says With joy you will draw water
    from the wells of salvation.

Romans 15:13 says May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Psalm 28:7 says The Lord is my strength and my shield;
    my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy,
    and with my song I praise him.

Joy is a shock absorber like the one you can find in a car. It helps prevent the passengers and driver from too much turbulence and shaking in their journey.
