Generational Blessing
Focus Word: Generational Blessing
Focus Verse - Luke 1:50 - His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.
1. Generational blessing flows from God's mercy.
The foundation of generational blessing is not human perfection, but God’s mercy.
Exodus 20:6 - but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.
The LORD’s love is from everlasting to everlasting (Psalm 103:17)
You are saved because of His mercy (Titus 3:5)
A spring at the source of a river keeps supplying water continuously. God's mercy is the source that sustains blessings across generations. Thank God, for His mercies are new every morning.
2. Generational blessing is activated by reverence for God.
The fear of the Lord means honour, reverence and obedience.
Blessed are those who fear the Lord. Their children will be mighty in the land. (Psalm 112:1,2)
Proverbs 14:26 - Whoever fears the LORD has a secure fortress, and for their children it will be a refuge.
Deuteronomy 5:29 - Oh, that their hearts would be inclined to fear me and keep all my commands always, so that it might go well with them and their children forever!
Although God’s mercy flows from generation to generation; to ensure the flow is not hindered, each generation must fear the Lord and live their lives accordingly so that the generational blessing remains activated for a thousand generations.
3. Generational blessing extends beyond one's lifetime.
What God does in one’s life can impact many lives after it.
Genesis 17:7 - I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
God will not violate His covenant although generations can choose to break or walk away from the covenant. We often may have come across families where though their parents loved and served the Lord and lived a blessed life, we don’t see the same in their children's lives. That’s because their blessings are hindered due to their way of living - without honouring and obeying God. When children choose to align their lives with the Word and honour God, they are positioning themselves to receive what God has already prepared.
Tell the next generation, the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord. (Psalm 78:4)
A mature tree can last for over a century, serving as a living legacy that provides shade, food, and cleaner air for generations. See to it that the seeds we sow today (our deeds/ decisions/ choices) will be for the blessing of our future generations. Your walk with God can bless future generations.
4. Generational blessings are intentionally passed on.
Blessings continue when they are taught, modelled and declared.
Deuteronomy 6: 6,7 - These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Joshua 24:15 - But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.
Proverbs 22:6 - Train up a child in the way he should go, And when he is old he will not depart from it.
Faith and values must be intentionally passed on to the next generation.
Declaration - The blessing of the Lord flows through me to future generations. My family walks in His favour.
