God of Small Things
The focus word for the day is FAITHFULNESS.
The focus verse for the day is Matthew 25:21says, ‘His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’
Let us declare this today: I remain faithful in small things. God will entrust me with greater influence.
When you look around us, there are faithful people and unfaithful people. If you see an honest and faithful person around you, know that he will surely prosper and enjoy great blessings.
Faithfulness is God’s primary requirement. All of us in this world have come down to complete certain assignments that God has entrusted us with. We can only leave this world after completing the assignments God has destined for us. On the cross of Calvary, Jesus said, ‘I finished the task the Heavenly Father gave me.” In the Bible, even Paul says, “I have completed the race.” There is a purpose for everyone, a goal they must complete during their time on earth. In order to be entrusted with and fulfill your purpose, faithfulness is a primary requirement. Even when we employ someone, faithfulness is a quality that matters greatly to us.
1 Corinthians 4:2 says, ‘Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.’
Before entrusting any task to a person, the first thing anyone looks at is faithfulness. God never says that His stewards must be talented, famous, fast, or impressive. If God has to entrust you with anything, the heavens only have one requirement, which is your faithfulness. God entrusts resources, people, influence, and opportunities, then He waits to see how they are handled. Paul says that God has counted me as faithful, therefore entrusting me with the good news. So the first thing that God does is give us responsibilities, then He watches to see if those responsibilities are faithfully conducted. If one is faithfully conducting their responsibilities, then more and bigger responsibility is given to them. The influence, people, opportunities and such given to you, the cornerstone of all this is faithfulness.
As Matthew 25:21 says, when the servant is faithful in the little things, God blesses him with bigger things and seeing this, the master is happy and rejoices. This verse specifically calls out, ‘come and share your master's happiness’. For instance, when an employee does good work and the company is doing well, often they are rewarded with bonuses which help them partake in the profits of the company. This is not your stipulated salary, but an appreciation for a job well done. God rewards faithfulness before fruitfulness. Increase follows integrity.
Faithfulness is proven in smaller things.
Luke 16:10 says, ‘Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.’
God watches how we handle small assignments. Growing up in a godly atmosphere, God watches over everyone. He checks if we are faithful in our personal prayers. Are we spending time in God’s presence? Are we faithful in reading the Word? God looks for faithfulness even in the smallest things. David was chosen by God when he was a young boy. He continued to be faithful to God and grew up to be prosperous and successful. He not only composed music and sang them but was also a mighty warrior. He was blessed with many talents by God. He was faithful from the time he was herding the sheep. He was careful to not let his sheep wander away or be attacked by any animals. The same goes for Joseph. He was faithful in taking care of his father’s herd and in every job given to him. If you look at Joseph’s story, he’s been through a lot of challenges — from being put in prison to working in the paddy field and being sold as a slave. Through it all he was faithful, and his faithfulness was seen and rewarded by God. He was faithful during this dark period of his life. So must we.
Faithfulness is measured by stewardship and not results. Matthew 25:21–23 keeps repeating this aspect of being faithful in the little which finally results in bigger blessings and being able to share the joy with your master.
Faithfulness is a covenant character.
Deuteronomy 7:9 says, ‘Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.’
Why do we trust God? Simply because He is faithful and keeps His promises to His people. He is an unchanging God. And knowing that our God is an unchanging, faithful God is a relief. He is a God who loves us at all times. Faithfulness flows from God’s own nature. Faithfulness is the essence of God. When we walk in faithfulness, we are walking in the image of God.
Make a decision today to be faithful to everything God has given you. It could be a menial task at work or even putting the chairs together at church, be faithful in everything you do, knowing fully well that God is seeing you.
Galatians 5:22 says, ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness...’
Faithfulness is not just a personality trait. It is a Spirit-produced character. It is essentially a fruit of the Holy Spirit.
There are people who pretend to be faithful and do the opposite when there is no authority to monitor them or no appreciation to follow. That is not real faithfulness. Real faithfulness exists even when there is no appreciation to be had and even when no one is looking. Look at a clock, it keeps ticking no matter who is looking. This is how faithfulness should be in us. God is faithful even when we don’t thank Him, even when we don’t pray to Him.
Faithfulness also unlocks increase and influence.
Proverbs 28:20 says, ‘A faithful person will be richly blessed, but one eager to get rich will not go unpunished.’
Faithfulness brings God’s commendations.
Revelation 2:10 says, ‘Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown.’
So the highest reward in heaven is not wealth or positions, but God saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
