Goodness & Mercy
Psalm 23
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Surely goodness and love follows me all the days of my life!
His goodness and mercy are not passive, they are active forces in our lives- actively pursuing us every day!
Sometimes, shepherds use two trained dogs called sheep dogs to follow them and the sheep to protect them. Imagine these sheep dogs are given the names- goodness and mercy. They follow God’s sheep constantly- the sheep cannot get rid of them!
This is a truth in our lives whether we believe it or not- goodness and mercy is always released upon us!
Psalm 34:8 Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
The goodness of God is an unending topic! The devil's aim is to mask God’s goodness and make him look cruel to humans. The devil lies and raises questions against God about why disasters and bad situations happen. All of these have happened because of man’s sin. God’s forgiveness and love towards us only shows us His goodness.
We see God’s goodness and His perfect love on the cross. We may struggle to see God’s goodness in some situations- but the truth is that He is good.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life".
Romans 8:32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?
Psalm 121:4 Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep
He doesn’t rest and constantly watches over us and sends His goodness towards us, day and night.
Lamentations 22:23 Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
His mercies towards us are new every single morning. With God, we have an ATM- Any Time Mercy!
Romans 8:28-35 “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. 30 And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. 31 What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who then is the one who condemns? No one. Christ Jesus who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.” 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?
God has predestined us to be confirmed to the image of Jesus even before the creation of the world. His love and mercy chases us and takes us from darkness to light.
Without us even knowing, a process is happening. He called us according to His purpose, He justified us, and He glorifies us.
If God is for us, who can be against? In His love, He gives us all things, including His Son. And nothing can separate us from His love. If we know this truth- we can always be at peace.
Because God is our shepherd, we lack nothing! And His goodness and mercy follows us daily. Nothing can separate us from this love of God.
Paul had this conviction about God. He had a phase where He rebelled against God- when He was Saul. But God’s love brought Saul to Him.
God will never leave or forsake you. And His love and mercy are always following you.
