Faith in the Storm
Faith in the Storm
The focus word for today is FAITH IN THE STORM
The focus verse for today is Isaiah 43:2 says, ‘When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze.’
The declaration for today is ‘Even in the storm, I’m secure in God’s presence. Breakthrough is brewing beneath the waves.’
1. Storms are Part of the Journey, Not the End of it
Storms do not mean that God has abandoned you. A storm can come in many ways – in the book of Jonah, his journey was toppled by a storm as he was attempting to run away from God’s plan. God then send a storm that resulted Jonah being swallowed by a whale, which eventually which brought him back to God’s plan. In another instance, when Jesus asked his disciples to go over to the other bank, Satan sent a storm to disrupt their journey. However, at the end of the day, no matter what the storm is, Jesus is the Saviour and our Saviour will never let us go. These storms are often pathways through which God reveals his power and faithfulness. Even when Jonah went against God’s will, God chased Jonah, followed him, to eventually put him on God’s divine path.
John 16:33 says, ‘I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world’
Psalm 66:12 says, ‘You let people ride over our heads; we went through fire and water, but you brought us to a place of abundance.’
In our lives, we might go through stress, anxiety and pain. Apostle Paul says, your faith might be tested in a furnace and might go through fiery ordeals, but know that this is only a part of Christian life. Even when you go through these trials and tribulations, it will never consume you. A ship is built for storms, and not for dry lands. In fact, storms prove the strength of a vessel. In the same way, storms reveals the strength of a person’s faith as violent waves rise. Faith is revealed when the waves rise.
2. God’s Presence is Greater than the Storm
God is present even during the storms. He doesn’t leave you in a crisis, he is with you at all times. When the disciples were trapped in a storm, Jesus was still with them in the boat. At another instance, when the disciples were stuck in a storm, Jesus climbed aboard the boat by walking on the waves. You will never miss God in your storm. Faith in the storm rests on the truth, which is God is with us. His presence does not remove the storm immediately, but it removes fear and brings peace through the storm.
Psalm 46:1 says, ‘God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.’
Matthew 8:26 says, ‘He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.’
Hebrews 13:5 says, ‘… “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”’
A child is not afraid of thunder, when holding the father’s hand.
3. Storms Test Faith and Produces Spiritual Strength
Storms refine our trust in God. They shake what’s temporary and strengthen what’s eternal. Faith grows deeper when exercised under pressure. Here are verses that highlight this principle.
James 1:2-3 says, ‘2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.’
1 Peter 1:7 says, ‘These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.’
Romans 5:3-4 says, ‘Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.’
Challenges build faith, and faith shapes Christ-like character and brings lasting hope. We often hear stories of people who endured difficult childhoods yet went on to achieve great things. Their journeys usually follow a similar path — hardship, perseverance, and eventually, growth and success. They carry with them a deep understanding of the struggles they faced and the strength they gained through enduring them. Such people will always be grateful to God and be seasoned and matured in their approach. In comparison to those who had a much easier route to success, they might lack depth and maturity. Muscles growth through resistance and faith grows through trials. Without pressure there is no strength.
4. Every Storm Carries a Hidden Breakthrough
God often uses storms to move us to new seasons. What looks like chaos could be God’s way of re-arranging your life to position you for promotion, deliverance and testimony.
Acts 27:41-44 says, ‘41 But the ship struck a sandbar and ran aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the surf. 42 The soldiers planned to kill the prisoners to prevent any of them from swimming away and escaping.43 But the centurion wanted to spare Paul’s life and kept them from carrying out their plan. He ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. 44 The rest were to get there on planks or on other pieces of the ship. In this way everyone reached land safely.’
Mark 4:39 says, ‘He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.’
Genesis 50:20 says, ‘You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives.’
Rains can sometimes be excruciating, but it prepares the soil for harvest. In the same way storms prepare the heart for breakthrough. If you are in the eye of a storm, do not be worried, for your Lord God is with you in the middle of the storm. Having Jesus with you through the storm, does not mean that you ignore the harsh waves crashing against you or the violent storm blowing your way. It is simply trusting the one who walks on water. God’s promises are never changing and when he says you will not drown, believe that you will not drown and the waters will not drown or sweep you. All you need to do is hold fast to our Lord and you will emerge stronger and victorious. Always remember that storms do not cancel God’s plan for us, but refines us.
