The Power of a Shout: Expressing Worship Boldly
Let’s recap…
What are the elements of corporate worship?
Imagine a person receiving their dream house. In the first few days, they would feel grateful, excited, and overjoyed. But as time passes, they may begin to take it for granted, and the initial excitement may fade.
However, in the Psalms, we read that even when joy in everything else ceases, we will never stop rejoicing in God’s presence.
Psalms 95:1 ‘Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.’
Philippians 4:4 ‘Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!’
When you read the book of Philippians, you’ll find that the entire book is centered on rejoicing in the Lord. The author wrote this while facing hardship, yet his message remained the same—Rejoice!
Nehemiah 8:10 ‘Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.’
The material things of this world are temporary, but the presence of the Lord is eternal. Nehemiah encouraged his people to find their joy in the Lord.
Romans 14:17 ‘For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit,’
JOY IN THE HOLY SPIRIT - The Holy Spirit is not a spirit of sadness, anxiety, or depression, but a spirit of joy. When you are filled with the Holy Spirit, joy becomes your lifestyle.
Galatians 5:22-23 ‘But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.’
Hebrews 13:15 ‘ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.’
When we confess Jesus Christ as Lord, we are saved. You can declare His Lordship over your life multiple times. When you proclaim His Lordship in the midst of worship, there is a shift in the atmosphere.
Revelation 19:3-4 “And again they shouted: “Hallelujah! The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.” The twenty-four elders and the four living creatures fell down and worshiped God, who was seated on the throne. And they cried: “Amen, Hallelujah!”
Amen, Hallelujah, Hosanna—these are words used to praise God.
Matthew 21:9 ‘The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”
Our God is omnipotent, all-powerful, and majestic. Doesn’t He deserve our shouts of praise?
Summary
Rejoice in the Lord always. The Holy Spirit fills us with joy that transcends circumstances. Confessing Jesus as Lord shifts the atmosphere and strengthens our faith.
