AUTHORITY
FOCUS WORD: AUTHORITY
Focus Verse: Luke 10: 19 - “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.”
Declaration: I exercise spiritual authority today. Every force of darkness bows before the name of Jesus.
Authority is called ‘Exousia’ in the Greek language. Exousia means delegated authority. Spiritual authority is that which is delegated to us by God. Most believers fail to have an understanding of the authority they possess; thus living in fear and worry.
Authority is given by Jesus, not earned by our striving. It has been given to us freely. We act in the Name of Jesus and under His authority. Matt. 28: 18 - 20 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 - Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 - teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” God is sovereign authority over all the earth and He has delegated this authority to His children. John 1: 12 - ‘To those who believed Him was given the authority to become children of God’. Every person born of the Spirit has become the child of God and so has been given authority automatically to use the name of Jesus. Eg: A traffic policeman directs traffic using the ‘stop’ sign. It is the uniform he is attired in that gives him the authority to control the traffic; not his height or the size of his figure. Similarly, we too, have been given authority - our ‘stop’ signal is the Name of Jesus. We need to discern this authority in our spirit.
Authority works against the power of the enemy. Jesus has already defeated the powers of darkness on the Cross of Calvary. We need to use the authority given to us to fight the powers, rulers and principalities of darkness working against us. Authority means we stand in victory, not fear, not in the power of our wealth or social standing. Col. 2: 15 - ‘He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in Him’. Ephesians 6: 12 - ‘For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places’. Darkness does not fight light, but as light advances darkness moves away, disappears. Authority is standing in the light of Christ.
Authority must be exercised through faith and prayer. Authority is given, but it must also be used or activated. It is those people who do not use the God-given authority that always seek prayer from others complaining that they are always being attacked by the forces of darkness. Faith, prayer and the Word of God activate the authority that Jesus has given us. James 4: 7 - ..‘Resist the devil and he will flee from you’. Mark 16: 17 .’In My Name, you will cast out demons’. This is a sort of Power of Attorney given to us by Jesus. Matt. 17: 20 - ’With the one who believes, nothing is impossible’. Eph. 6: 18 - ‘Pray in the Spirit on all occasions, with all prayer and supplication’…. A key opens a door only when the key is put into the keyhole and the key turned in the right direction. Authority works only when it is exercised in faith.
Authority produces confidence and protection. Those who walk in the authority of Christ live with courage and assurance of God’s covering and protection. Psalm 91: 1 - 4 ‘He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of Almighty. 3 - ‘He will deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence’. 4 - ‘He will cover with His pinions, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness is a shield and buckler’. Romans 8: 37 - ‘In all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us’. Isaiah 54: 17 - ‘No weapon fashioned against you will succeed’. A little child walks with his father holding his hand - he need not fear anything because the father is close by to protect him in every way. Authority brings peace because we know who walks with us. We have been authorised by CHRIST! Walk boldly, resist the enemy and live under the authority granted to us by heaven.
God bless you all!
