Worship Through Dance
Psalms 149:3 ‘Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp.’
Music originated in heaven. The wings of the cherubim produce music. However, instead of using music to worship God, Satan has distorted it for his own purposes.
If you don’t know how to dance, that’s okay. When the Holy Spirit fills you, you will dance like never before and worship God with joy.
In the Old Testament, we read about Miriam, a prophetess, who led the women in dancing and praising God.
Exodus 15:20 ‘Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing.’
Dancing is often associated with joy. People dance at celebrations, weddings, and school or college events. Miriam danced with a timbrel because she was praising God for delivering the Israelites from Egypt, where they had once been slaves.
Psalms 30:11 ’You turned my wailing into dancing; you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy’
The Holy Spirit is the spirit of joy and happiness. If you are hurting right now, begin to rejoice. Praise and worship God with dancing, and you will see Him work wonders in your life.
Matthew 11:17 ‘We played the pipe for you, and you did not dance; we sang a dirge, and you did not mourn.’
In Acts 3, we read about a crippled man lying outside the temple courts, begging from those who passed by. When Peter and John walked past him, he called out, asking for money. This man had been crippled for years. But when Peter and John told him to stand up in Jesus’ name, he immediately got up. Instead of cautiously testing his ability to walk, he began jumping up and down, praising God.
Exodus 3:5 ‘Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.’
Psalms 9:11 ‘Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done.’
Psalms 35:18 ‘I will give you thanks in the great assembly; among the throngs I will praise you.’
Hebrews 13:15 ‘ Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that openly profess his name.’
Summary
Music and dance are powerful ways to worship God. Just as Miriam and the healed man rejoiced, you too can experience God’s wonders through worship. Rejoice, dance, and trust that God will turn your sorrow into joy!
