You Are Not Alone - Part 1
Feeling alone or lonely even when you are around people is something that many experience in their lives. What does Jesus have to say about it?
In John 14:18, Jesus says; “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.”
The context of this statement is the time Jesus spent with the disciples explaining his departure from earth. They were confused, depressed and with heavy hearts, not fully understanding what Jesus was telling them. The above verse was a very personal statement that He spoke to His disciples. This was the most comforting verse. Jesus was assuring them and us too that He would never leave them nor forsake them.
Hebrews 13.5 Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
This is spoken by God Himself who is eternal. Unlike humans, He will never change His Word. The one who gave us this promise is faithful.
If he said, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you”, He meant it. The primary meaning when He spoke this to the disciples is that although He was going to be crucified, He would come back. But to us it means a lot more. An orphan is someone who has no one to take care of him or his needs. He/ She is alone although there are many around them. This makes Jesus’ statement very powerful in the lives of every man. Humans have limitations. Even a person with close relatives will not get their help in certain situations. But Jesus being God will be with us every moment.
David experienced God’s presence in his darkest moments.
Psalm 23. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
Matthew 28.20 And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Jesus can or never will change His word.
Matthew 24.35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
We are never alone. Whatever be the condition or situations we go through in this world, Jesus will never leave us. This is a fact or reality whether we believe it or not. We cannot normally experience Jesus with our five senses as He is a Spirit being. We can experience God’s promises only by faith. It is not a feeling. Just like we know that the Sun exists although we do not see it at night, we must be able to believe that Jesus is always with us.
Everyone living in this world will go through times where they will feel lonely. Even Jesus went through such a time when he lived on earth. But He who is rich in mercy, promises that He will be with us all the time. We need to receive it by faith.
