Physical Blessings
There are three basic blessings that we receive as a child of God.
3 John 1.1-3 The Elder, To the beloved Gaius, whom I love in truth: Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
God desires His children to be of good health.
What is Jesus’ heart for His children ?
To know this, we must look at His ministry while on earth. Throughout his ministry period of three and a half years, Jesus healed the sick. Unlike today, the medical field had not developed during that time. People depended on natural things available for the healing of their bodies. Jesus gave much importance to the health of people. He was not just a preacher or teacher. He healed people. This was Jesus’ heart. His disciples who had been with Him during this entire period knew this well.
Apostle John , one of the twelve shares the heart of Jesus and prays for good health for his beloved friend Gaius.
Jesus’ healing ministry is continued on earth today through his children. Anyone who prays and calls on His name can receive healing.
Matthew 10.1 And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.
God is mindful of our bodies. Jesus touched unclean bodies to heal them.
This is one aspect of our physical blessings. The other aspect is that in the New Testament, our physical bodies are the temple of God. In the Old Testament, before Jesus came to earth, God did not live in human bodies. He dwelled in the Most Holy Place in the tabernacle/ Temple. When the dispensation changed, He now lives in the bodies of His children.
1 Corinthians 3.16 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
1 Corinthians 6.19 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own?
Since our body houses God, we have a responsibility to take care of ourselves physically. We must be careful of the food we eat and do physical exercises to be fit.
Therefore, Apostle John prays for Gaius to prosper spiritually and also enjoy good health. GOd desires that we have health and healing.
Jeremiah 33.6 Behold, I will bring it health and healing; I will heal them and reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth.
It is our right as a Child of God to be healthy.
