The Abrahamic Blessing : Part 1

We are going through the journey of blessings through history.
 
In Genesis 12, God called Abraham individually and blessed him.                                                
Genesis 12:1-3 1The LORD had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.2 I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

This was a great call on Abraham’s life which affects all of God’s children.
The seven fold blessing is listed below:
 
1. I will make you into a great nation
This includes a national and generational increase and multiplication; an exponential growth. We receive a national and generational blessing when we accept God’s call and become a child of God. We must never reject the call of God in our life. God told Abraham to forsake everything else. Abraham lived a great life in Ur and he left all to live a nomadic life in tents as this call involved an important future blessing for God’s people.
 
2. I will bless you
This is personal and individual from God in our lives. God called Abraham by name and he calls us by name too. God imparts and covers us individually with his blessing.
 
3. I will make your name great
God changed his name from Abram to Abraham when he was ninety nine years old. When God said he would make Abraham’s name great, it meant fame, reputation, honour etc.
Zephaniah 3.20 says “I will give you honour and praise among all the peoples of the earth”. In the epistles of Romans, Apostle Paul writes that he was famous in Christ Jesus. Even if we are not known on earth, we are known in Heaven.
 
4. You will be a Blessing
It means that you will be an instrument of blessing to many people. As the carriers of God’s blessing, we can impart the blessing of God to others wherever we go. God’s children spreads the blessings they receive from God.
 
5. I will bless those who bless you
There is a transmission of blessing on to the deserving people. If a person blesses a blessed person, the person who blesses will receive blessings. Jews are blessed by God and when we bless the Jews, we are blessed. When God says something, He means it. We must never forget that God called us to be a blessing to others.
 
6. Whoever curses you I will curse
This is God’s vengeance against people who try to harm you. We don’t have to curse anyone. By default, God curses anyone who curses or hurts a blessed child of God. This is a principle of God.
 
7. All peoples on earth will be blessed by you
This is a global level blessing and trans generational blessing following through you.
 
Conclusion:
 The Abrahamic blessings are seven fold and belong to God’s children and their generations both physical and spiritual. We are individually blessed and must receive it by faith and declare it. Abraham did not live to see his spiritual generations being blessed which is being transmitted even now. So too with us; God blesses up to thousand generations of those who are obedient to Him. We have the potential to bless all people around us.
