Do Not Take Revenge

If you really want to be blessed, you need to be a blessing unto others.
1 Peter 3:9 Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.
Most of us have the ‘revenge mentality’. But Peter has written not to repay evil with evil meaning that we should forgo this revenge mentality. Peter was once in a situation where he was in a fighting mode (he had cut off the ear of Malchus with a sword) but it is him who advises us not to follow this path.
Matthew 26:52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.
This was the advice given to him from Jesus Himself which he has taken as a very important life lesson. On the contrary, we should repay evil with blessing, which is a difficult thing to do. But this is necessary to inherit or experience blessings in life.
We might face such difficult situations within our neighbourhoods, families, even in church, but we should be able to not react with revenge but in humility, bless them by praying for them and giving them gifts. Turn to God in prayer for an answer to the difficult situation, never act on an evil action. And the end result will be fruitful.
We must be vessels of blessing. Blessing is transferable, and blessing can be imparted. We need to believe that “I can be a blessing unto others” just like the Abrahamic blessing imparted onto us. Hence Peter emphasises that we are called to inherit the blessings so we should never repay evil with evil but instead repay with kindness and blessings just like Jesus did!
In Luke 23:34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting lots.
This is what Jesus did when they crucified Him. We too, as children of Abraham, can be a blessing to others in Christ Jesus..
Proverbs 20:22 Do not say, “I’ll pay you back for this wrong!” Wait for the LORD, and he will avenge you.
God always and clearly says both in the Old Testament and New Testament, that all revenge is His and it is not for us to do. This is because we cannot do it like Him. All we have to do is wait because God will do the needful on our behalf.
