Do Your Duties

Last week we were going through the things we ought to do in order to be blessed in life. Based on that, we read the scripture portion from John 6:5-13. From this passage, every individual would remember one miracle that Jesus did - the miracle of the 5 loaves and 2 fish that fed thousands. This was one of the most supernatural miracles that has taken place ever to be recorded in all the four gospels. But to make this happen, there were certain principles God had followed which can still be applied to our lives today.
 
A short recap on the principles we had gone through:

1. God does not create anything from nothingness today. 
2. God will not ask you what you don’t have. He is giving us a privilege to partner with Him in His ministry for His Kingdom.

 
Following these, we have a few more pointers;

3. God can bless only the things that are placed in His hands. 

Jesus was able to multiply the food when he was given the 5 loaves and 2 fish into his hands. Whatever we give into the hands of Jesus, there will be a miracle there! So don’t cling onto the things in your hands but surrender them unto Jesus. Always keep in mind that when we do what we can do, God will do what we cannot do. 
 
We can do the natural, practical & possible things which include:

1. Follow Him wholeheartedly
2. Partner with God (Philippians 4:15-19)

Investing in God's work is the best investment. It will never go bust. Worldly investment cannot be carried forward when we die unlike heavenly investment.
That is why Jesus said in Matthew 6.19 and 20: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
 
Those who give for God’s work are wise investors.
Mark 10: 29-30 Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life
 
1 Corinthians 15:58 says, Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labour in the Lord is not in vain.
 
Our God is a God of surprises! 
1 Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written: “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”— the things God has prepared for those who love him—
 
2 Corinthians 9:11 says, You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.
 

3. Do your duties

God could have created bread and fish from nothing. But he did not do so. He prefers to do everything in partnership with man. What we have to do or can do according to our ability, we must do. Then God will do what we cannot do.  We need to do our duties so that we may be blessed.
 
1Thessalonians 4:11-12 says, 11 and to make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you, 12 so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody.
 
People think that it is because we sinned that we are made to work but that is not true. Adam used to work by taking care of God’s creations. However, hard labour came to be because of the sin of man. God expects us to work with our hands. God was Adam and Eve’s employer. They were expected to look after the property of God. God also works with us. He never rests.

John 5.17 “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.”
Psalm 121. 3, 4 “ he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.

God, the Holy Spirit who resides in each one of us is always working in our lives. So we too need to work so that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders and so that you will not be dependent on anybody. A child of God must do his duties perfectly.

2 Thessalonians 3:10 says, ``For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.”

Always remain active even after retirement!
