Sowing and Reaping: Part 5

God first speaks about this practice of sowing in Genesis 1.11,12 when He commanded the land to produce vegetation with seed bearing plants that bear fruit with seed in it according to their various kinds.
In Genesis 8:22, we read  ““As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Psalm 126:5,6 “5 Those who sow in tears will reap with shouts of joy. 6 He who goes out weeping, bearing a trail of seed, will surely return with shouts of joy, carrying sheaves of grain.”

When we sow the seed which is the word of God, we must in the same way, soak it in tears with our burden and prayers, we will see an abundant harvest!

In Mark 4. 26-29,  we see that after we sow and care for a seed, the rest of the work is done without us knowing when or how. This is a principle of the kingdom of God.
There are four stages in the life of a seed:

1. Planting
2. Death 
3. Resurrection 
4. Harvest

God gives  a collection of seeds in each one's hand.
2 Corinthians 9:10-11 “Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.”

Anything can be a seed and God has given each of us such blessings in the seed form. From the harvest, one part is to sow again and the other is to eat. This is how we should handle our harvests as well.
For example, we must not spend all the money that comes to us. Only a part is to spend, the rest of it should be invested for the future.  

There are different kinds of seeds in our collection:

1. The Word of God 

1 Peter 1:23 “For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
A child of God is born when the “Word of God” which is a seed is planted inside. (John 6.63 The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life)

John 3:5 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
Water denotes the “Word of God”. A person is born again when the Word which is a seed falls on his heart and the Holy Spirit acts on it.

Mathew 13:19 “When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path.”

The seed that is sown is the Word of God and the field is our human heart.

How many of us have stored the seed of the Word of God ? We have a responsibility to sow the “Word” into the hearts of other people.

2. The Children of God

Matthew 13:38 “The field is the world, and the good seed stands for the people of the kingdom. The weeds are the people of the evil one”

The good seed is also the disciples or children of God. Here, the field is the whole world!
Satan sows seeds of weeds and they are satan’s children. Jesus first sowed twelve disciples and in the upper room it became 120. On Pentecost day, it multiplied. This happened because there is potential in the seed .This seed must multiply and spread across the world.
Wherever we are, God has made us a good seed in that place and we must share the good news of the gospel to others! This is our responsibility.
