Why Do I Sin?

John 10:10 ‘The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’

Grace is not a licence to sin. Remember this!

Why shouldn’t we sin? 

1. Romans 6:1-14 tells us that ‘believers are dead to sin’.
What does dead to sin mean? It means that we are separated from sin and kept apart. 

2. Sin is an inroad for Satan into the lives of people. Romans 6:15-20

1 John 5:18 ‘We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them.’

Those born of God do not continue in sin because Christ protects them and Satan cannot harm them. The devil has no foothold in our life. He has no claim over you. Hallelujah!

We are all dead to sin but there are times when we sin. The real question here is why do we sin?

1. Because they believe the old sinful nature is still in them. 
But according to the Bible, the old man was crucified along with Christ on the cross. 

2. They live in the body and soul that are not yet completely saved. 
Remember that when you were born again, it is your soul that received salvation and not your body. Hence we might have to face many struggles in the body.

3. They are not aware of the consequences of sin.

Galatians 6:8 ‘Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.’

Yes, our God is merciful and he forgives and forgets our sins but you need to keep in mind the verse above, what you sow you shall reap. 

4. They don't renew their minds. 

Renewal of the mind happens by meditating the word of God and having fellowship.
