The Diversity Of The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit works in two areas:
The moment we are saved, the Holy Spirit comes inside of us. It is an internal operation of the Holy Spirit.
Luke 24:49 ‘I am going to send you what my Father has promised; but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”’
Acts 1:8 ‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”’
On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon all who were gathered and they started speaking in tongues. When the people saw this they thought Peter and the others were drunk. Only later did they realise that they were speaking in different languages.
Peter stood up and spoke to everyone gathered there. The impartation of the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues is the fulfilment of the promise that prophet Joel had spoken about in the old testament.
On hearing this, some of the people accepted what Peter said but others were against it.
Acts 2:38-39 ‘Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.”’
What does one need to do to receive salvation according to Peter?
Everyone can be saved! Hallelujah! Salvation is not limited to a few selected. Anyone who desires can be saved. Jesus is the saviour of the world.
Four things mentioned in the above verses:
The first two are actions and the last two are gifts. If you repent and get baptised, you will receive the gifts i.e forgiveness and the Holy Spirit.
Acts 2:1-4
‘When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.’
There were 120 people in the upper room. And each one of them received equally from the Holy Spirit.
Joel 2:28 ‘“And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men will dream dreams, your young men will see visions. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.’
The policy of the Holy Spirit -Inclusion of all and exclusion of none.
