Soul Ties

When God created us human beings, He had in mind a particular form/design for the human soul; but due to various reasons the human soul was affected and now God is at work in restoring our soul to the former state. These days, we are analysing the various reasons for our souls to lose their divine shape. Today, we’re going to tackle the topic of soul ties. 

In simple terms, a soul tie means a soul to soul relationship between two persons as they interact and connect over a period of time. Soul tie was designed by God; because after God created Adam in the Garden of Eden, a relationship was established between God and Adam. God desired that such relationships exist on Earth, and they can be called as godly soul ties. Also, when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior, we become one with Him in spirit and that relationship is reflected in our entire being. However, what God designed for good and as a blessing is replicated by the devil yielding ungodly soul ties which is noxious. 

Godly Soul Ties
Soul tie between a husband and wife: Genesis 2:24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.
Soul tie between Jacob (father) and Benjamin (child): Genesis 44:30,31 “So now, if the boy is not with us when I go back to your servant my father, and if my father, whose life is closely bound up with the boy’s life, sees that the boy isn’t there, he will die.

We all get deeply attached to our parents, siblings, spouse, children and often their absence creates a great void in us. Such soul to soul relationships are godly soul ties, which may become ungodly if it is not rightly handled. 

1 Samuel 18:1 After David had finished talking with Saul, Jonathan became one in spirit with David, and he loved him as himself.
1 Samuel 20:17 And Jonathan had David reaffirm his oath out of love for him, because he loved him as he loved himself.

We all will have a soul to soul relationship with certain people and it is essential for a sense of belonging while we live on Earth, and these relationships give us a great sense of security. God has created us as social beings, and healthy relationships are vital for healthy living.

However, some people can have ungodly soul ties in certain situations which is a reason for inner wounds and the outcome will be destructive. 
Ungodly soul ties occur when bonding becomes a bondage and it could be of various kinds. 

1. Person to person: when a boy and girl is knit in a relationship outside God’s will
2. Sex outside marriage: even if that man and woman separate afterwards, the soul tie between them continues in the spirit realm
3. Person to place: an emotional attachment toward a place, to an extent where family life is compromised due to the ungodly soul tie toward that place. 
4. Person to incident: an unpleasant situation or accident, the memory of which keeps recurring.
5. Person to thing: over attachment to any particular thing (social media); overuse of phone becomes an abuse, such that a person exhibits withdrawal symptoms in its absence.
6. Person to music: when a person cannot live without a particular kind of music such that the music continues in his/ her song even after the track is played.

Psalm 129:4 But the LORD is righteous; he has cut me free from the cords of the wicked."

We all have an everlasting relationship only with God, our Father and Creator. We’ll have to let go of every other relationship and therefore we should not let any relationship overpower us and therefore we should be willing to set healthy boundaries for every human relationship. 

Proverbs 22:24-25 Do not make friends with a hot-tempered person, do not associate with one easily angered, or you may learn their ways and get yourself ensnared.

2 Corinthians 6:14-18 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever? What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.” Therefore, “Come out from them and be separate, says the Lord. Touch no unclean thing, and I will receive you.” And, “I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.”

Be very careful of those you associate with. It may all start in a good way, but if given a chance, what started as a friendly chat can end up in an ungodly soul to soul relationship. There’s always a demonic influence behind ungodly relationships. Be cautious to cut off every unwanted relationship with/ memory of any person in the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit; and keep yourselves pure for you are called to live a holy life and it's more important to please your Lord God rather than mere humans.  

1 Corinthians 15:33 Do not be deceived: “Evil company corrupts good habits.”
Choose your friends wisely. Bad company can always be a hindrance for your progress in life. 

Also, when somebody near and dear to you breathes his/her last; you should be willing to accept the truth of their demise and let go of that person to the Lord from your hearts. Sometimes, we may dream about our dear ones after their death, but finding joy in getting to see them in our dreams is not good for our mental health.
