This Can Be Your Story - Part 5

Joseph went through many trials, but as we go through his life, we see that God will exalt His children to a sweet and majestic ending.
The book of Genesis details Joseph’s life. It teaches us how to stay away from sin, overcome temptation, and stand for truth and justice always. Joseph never joined his brothers in their wicked ways. The reward for this was the hatred of his brothers. What do we do when the majority among us decide to sin?
It is our decision to obey and fear God today that takes us to God’s blessings and promises tomorrow.
Yes, God does forgive us. But the consequences of our sins are still real. Our sin also opens an inroad to your life for the devil. So while it is true that God will forgive our sins, it is still never the best road for us to take. We see how David suffered severe consequences of his sin even after God forgave him. David committed adultery and murder for which he, his generations and kingdom went through a lot of mental and physical agonies.
When we sow in the spirit, we reap life. But when we sow in the flesh, we reap death.
Eli’s sons were wicked children. But Samuel grew up among them, without following their ways. It is possible to remain away from sin while living amongst it!
Genesis 37:12 onwards talks about Joseph going to Dothan
looking for his brothers.
Joseph had three phases (beloved son, rejected slave, exalted ruler).
This was his first one, the beloved son. Among his 11 brothers, he was different, and was the favourite of his father, with a strong heart to heart relationship with his father. His brothers were jealous of him for this and they hated him. A great love from one side can attract great hatred from another side.
He finds his brothers in Dothan. They immediately plan to kill him even as they see him from far away. Jealousy kills and leads to great sin: it causes division and deep animosity between the brothers. The murder of brother started from the first family: Cain killed Abel because he was jealous.
Genesis 27:41
“And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.”
After Jacob deceived Esau and got the birthright, Esau looked for many ways to kill him especially after their father died. But God intervened and there was a reconciliation between the brothers.
In the same way, Joseph’s brothers plotted against him.
Joseph’s dream was that he would be placed higher than his brothers. But what was his reality at that moment? The same people he was destined to rule over, were selling him off as a slave.
He received his dream when he was seventeen years but it was fulfilled at the age of 30.
Sometimes when our present reality doesn’t match with God’s promise for our life, we tend to lose faith in it. But Joseph’s life teaches us that God always keeps His Word and that we must remain faithful and true in the waiting period.
