Calamities to Crusades

We live in a blessed age mainly because the yoke of the Old Testament Law does not bind us any more.
In Matthew 11:28-30 Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
In the Old Testament, the Israelites had to live by the law and toiled hard. However, our burden is now so light. Jesus through the New Covenant released us from the burden of the Law.
In the Acts chapter 15, the Council of the Apostles and church elders concluded that other than a few laws such as “abstain from things polluted by idols and from fornication and from whatever has been strangled and from blood”, the other laws should be taken off from new believers.
Jesus told the disciples to go to the ends of the world and witness to all people. When they didn’t do that, Jesus appeared to Paul and sent him. He was kept busy with God’s work by sending apostles to many people and writing letters to churches, even in prison!
He was then given a calling to witness in Rome. It was at this time when he was arrested and then appealed to Caesar. On the journey by ship to Rome, as a prisoner, they are taken by storm and rain. We see this in Acts 27. They had no hope of surviving, but Paul knew of God’s promise to him that no one on the ship would lose their lives.
Paul spoke to them in Acts 27
But now I urge you to keep up your courage, because not one of you will be lost; only the ship will be destroyed. Last night an angel of the God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood beside me and said, ‘Do not be afraid, Paul. You must stand trial before Caesar; and God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you.’ So keep up your courage, men, for I have faith in God that it will happen just as he told me. Nevertheless, we must run aground on some island.”
They successfully landed at an island called Malta where the islanders showed them great kindness. Once they settled in, a snake wrapped itself around Paul’s hand.
Acts 28:4-6
“When the islanders saw the snake hanging from his hand, they said to each other, “This man must be a murderer; for though he escaped from the sea, the goddess Justice has not allowed him to live.” But Paul shook the snake off into the fire and suffered no ill effects. The people expected him to swell up or suddenly fall dead; but after waiting a long time and seeing nothing unusual happen to him, they changed their minds and said he was a god.”
Within seconds people changed their opinion about Paul. The chief of the island, Publius, welcomed them home and hosted them for three days. Publius’ father was unwell, but when Paul prayed over him, he was healed!
All the sick people came to Paul and they were all healed! Paul conducted a healing crusade.
When the visitors finally left the island, they honoured them in many ways and were showered with gifts and all the supplies they needed ! They were shipwrecked and lost everything when they landed there, but they left with all that they needed. They set sail in a more luxurious ship than the one that was destroyed.
God can convert calamities into crusades! God can give us more than what we have lost and restore with better things !!!!
