Misunderstandings About Divine Prosperity
We are going to see the Principles of Divine Prosperity. Let us look with an unbiased mind at what the Word of God teaches us in respect to this teaching.
God is Spirit (John 4:24) and He created us in His image and likeness. God has made us spirit beings, but we live in a material world. Let us look at a few verses from the Bible which affirm that man is a spirit being.
1 Thessalonians 5:23
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.
Genesis 1:26-27
Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
Genesis 2:7
Then the Lord God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.
God fashioned us out of the dust, and into that body of dust, He put a spirit, whereupon we also received a soul. We carry the image and likeness of God in our spirit more than our body. God is Spirit.
We are spirit beings but we live in this material world. We live in a three dimensional world with height, breadth and length. Our body is made from the elements of the earth. As long as we live in this material world, we need material resources, our body has its physical needs. Along with that, we are spirit beings and so we have spiritual needs.
We are tripartite beings like the Holy Trinity, The Father, the Son, The Holy Spirit. We have a trichotomy, one unit with three parts, i.e. spirit, soul, and body.
How can we live in divine prosperity?
We see verses in the Bible that speak about how the Son of Man had no home or nowhere to rest his head and so also his disciples. Rejecting the riches of this world is often equated with spirituality. But this is a wrong notion. No where in the Bible does it state that Jesus suffered lack. On the other hand, from what we read in Scripture, we can infer that Jesus wore a garment of great price. His garment was seamless, which meant it was expensive and of great value. That is why the Roman soldiers cast lots for it, as they did not want to tear it to divide it.
Coming to Jesus’ ministry, there were people who sold their riches to support Him in His Kingdom work. Jesus had all He needed for His ministry, and the rest He created through miracles. He changed water into wine. Jesus fasted, but nowhere does it say that Jesus had to go hungry. In fact, of all the names that people called Him, one was glutton and drunkard. Jesus would take part in feasts and be a part of social circles. He interacted with them but did not sin. Judas Iscariot who was in charge of the money boxes, often stole from it which could mean there was plenty.
Luke 8:1-3
After this, Jesus traveled about from one town and village to another, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. The Twelve were with him, and also some women who had been cured of evil spirits and diseases: Mary (called Magdalene) from whom seven demons had come out; Joanna the wife of Chuza, the manager of Herod’s household; Susanna; and many others. These women were helping to support them out of their own means.
Psalm 1:1-3
Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted beside streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.
Those who delight in the Lord and obey His Word, yield fruit in due season and are prosperous in all that they do.
Joshua 1:8
Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.
This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, meditate on it day and night and observe all that it says, then you will have success. There is a godly prosperity that comes from God about which God instructs us in His Word. We will see more about this in the coming days.
