You Can Be A Super Blessing
Biblical prosperity is from God but we need to prioritize our lives. Spiritual prosperity is more important than mental, physical and material prosperity. We need to seek the Kingdom and its righteousness that all will go well with us.
Today’s focus is that we can be a super blessing to others. This is God’s desire for us. A great example in this regard is Joseph in the Old Testament.
Biblical prosperity is different from our perspective.
A good example is the author of Psalms 73. The person who wrote this chapter was filled with sorrow. When he looked around, people who did not believe in God or called upon him were making a lot of money and were very prosperous and enjoying life. However, the author's life was different. He kept himself away from sin and abided by the scriptures. He faced challenges and problems day and night. This feeling of unfairness and disappointment took a toll on him and he decided to go to the Temple. As he entered the Temple he had a revelation, where he understood that the people around him who lived their opulent lives were on a slippery ground and any time they would fall. But for him, the author, he was blessed with a long lasting blessing and would be with the Lord, even after his death.
Now moving to Joseph’s story.
Genesis 39:1-2 says, ‘Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. Potiphar, an Egyptian who was one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him there. The Lord was with Joseph so that he prospered, and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master.’
Joseph was bought from a slave market where people were bought to work at their homes. In the slave market, they are displayed on the top of the deck without their clothes and completely naked. This was to ensure that the buyer could see the slave and check their body for deformities and to ensure they can work. Potiphar looked and checked out Joseph before purchasing him. Despite his circumstances, the Lord was with Joseph so he prospered and he lived in the house of his Egyptian master. Slaves are people without any rights and are considered as the property of his Master. Even in that situation as a slave, Joseph prospered.
Going back to what I mentioned earlier, prosperity looks very different in the eyes of the Lord. Joseph was also physically blessed, where it caught the attention of Potiphar’s wife. He mentally prospered to become sharp and smart to a level where he was responsible for Potiphar's entire household and all his holdings. God's presence was always with him, inside him which means he was prosperous spiritually. However, in the eyes of the world, he was poor, he did not have any riches to his name.
Do you believe that God is with you? For if God is with you, then who can be against you? (Romans 8:31) Spiritually our God has blessed us as it is written in Ephesians 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ.”
Although we might not have a great bank balance, we are blessed by God.
Matthew 6:33 says, ‘But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.’
We all know how Joseph’s story goes. He ran away from Potiphar’s wife’s temptations which landed him in prison. Even there he prospered. If you are God's child, you will prosper wherever you go in whatever you do. You will not only be a blessing to yourself but also a blessing to others. Finally in Joseph’s story after 13 years, the Lord lifted him up in his situations and brought him to a place where he held the power to the entire nation. He then continued to become a super blessing to others and was not selfish in his prosperity and he became a super giver. He was so blessed that he gave to many nations.
Your situation might not be ideal now. But do not worry, if God is with you, then you will prosper.
