Revelation Of The Goodness Of God
Allen Gardiner, was a missionary in South America who died at the age of 57. In his journal which was found after his death, he has written about all his sufferings but the final words were; “I am overwhelmed at God’s goodness”. This was written by a man who suffered a lot for Christ’s sake.
Many of us who have everyone, often crib when we don’t get some things we want and say that God is not good to us. The truth is that the goodness of God never changes because there is no change in God. What we need is an attitudinal change to be able to taste God’s goodness in all seasons. God is good to all.
One reason why we fail to understand God is because His thoughts are different from ours.
Isaiah 55:8-9
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
His plans and thoughts are much higher than we can fathom. We judge God’s goodness based on our mood and emotion of the day. But God does not change, He is always good and we can count on Him.
Jeremiah 29:11
“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
God has good plans for each of us. He is mindful of us and cares for us. A parent always desires the best for their children. How much more will God desire good for His children?
Ecclesiastes 3:11
He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.
No one can comprehend everything that God has done. We cannot understand the depth, height, width etc. of God’s love with our small brain. And no matter what we do, God will always be good to us. Even when Jesus was crucified, He prayed to the Father to forgive the people.
We can experience God through personal experiences in our life. And also through the pure milk of the Word of God.
A lot of us are confused about God’s goodness when we read the Old Testament. God is portrayed as cruel in the Old Testament and soft in the New Testament. But God has not changed. This is because there wasn’t full revelation about God in that time. God was just revealing Himself part by part.
Hebrews 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.
God’s fullness was revealed through Jesus.
Acts 10:38
how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him
Jesus did only good and was blameless. Therefore we must be careful when we read the Word and understand God’s goodness.
God is always good.
