Wise Building

1 Corinthians 3:10-17
By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames. 16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple.
Jesus is the foundation of all things. He is the Rock of ages, the foundation of all created things, visible and invisible. All that came into being came through Him. Christ is the foundation. Now whoever builds, must build carefully. Apostle Paul says, when he built, he built carefully using wisdom.
Proverbs 9:1
Wisdom has built her house; she has set up its seven pillars.
We need wisdom to build
Proverbs 24:3-4
By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
One who has wisdom builds a house. We need wisdom, understanding, and knowledge. Knowledge is information about something. Wisdom is practical knowledge. People can have knowledge but not wisdom. Understanding is a bridge between knowledge and wisdom. Understanding means comprehension. Knowledge is theoretical, wisdom is practical.
People can be financial experts, advise others, but have no money themselves. This is because they have knowledge but no wisdom, because they have no understanding. A person who has all three can live a victorious life.
Wisdom, knowledge, understanding.
Luke 6:46-49
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say? 47 As for everyone who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice, I will show you what they are like. 48 They are like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. 49 But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete.”
There is no point in just calling on the Lord if we do not obey His Word. One who obeys God’s Word is like a person who dug deep and built on rock. Despite floods and torrents, the house was unshakeable. We can live an unshakeable life when we build our lives on Christ the rock. Being wise and building is obeying the Word and being foolish and building is disobeying the Word.
Hebrews 6:1
Therefore let us move beyond the elementary teachings about Christ and be taken forward to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God
We must build our life on the teachings of Christ. If we do so, we will live an unshakeable life.
To build a house that is good and functional, we need knowledge, understanding, and wisdom.
Knowledge of the Word of God alone is not enough. We need understanding, we must be able to grasp it. That is when information becomes revelation. Then we receive practical wisdom.
