Sowing and Reaping - Part 1

In nature there are natural principles and roles. One of the most important one is the principle of gravitational force. It is because of the gravitational force that we are able to walk and move around on the ground. Moon, Earth's only natural satellite, also has its own gravitational pull and we’ve seen how people have tried walking on it. However the downside of gravitational force is that, if someone tries to step out from 12th floor balcony, that will end in a painful tragedy. Gravity is a principle of the earth. There are several planets, stars and satellites circling around in the solar system, with pre-destined rules and regulations placing them in a distinct position. In the same way, in the Kingdom of God, there are principles and rules and today’s focus is one such rule - Sowing and Reaping. 

This topic has been discussed several times over and there is a good chance that many of you are aware of what is going to be discussed. However there are certain things in this principle that are applicable in your life and relevant in our day to day. 

Genesis 1:11-12 says, ‘11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.’

While the creation process is taking place, God places certain rules for blessings. The verses you read above is a rule/ command that God places in nature to produce and multiply. God opens His mouth and says “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.”. 

Throughout the book of Genesis, there is a phrase that is constantly mentioned, ‘according to their various kinds’. Each plant and tree have specific names, kinds and grouping. Even if we are unaware of it, people who learn about them call them and categorise them accordingly. Both in the animal and the plant kingdom, even if there is a slight mutation caused by evolution, they end up producing the same kind. Even though there are hybrids seen throughout, in a natural system placed by God, such mingling is not allowed and does not take place. Which is why we can say with utmost clarity human beings did not evolve from Monkeys and the theory of evolution is wrong. 

The concept of sowing and reaping/ harvesting (the seed principle) is a clear principle placed by God during the creation. Genesis 8:22 says, ‘“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”’

As long as the earth endures, the aforementioned things will never end. They will sustain and among the list mentioned is seedtime and harvest.
This is the covenant that God made with Noah that He would never destroy the earth with water. 

However, we read in the following verses that God will destroy the present Heaven and earth by fire.
Matthew 24:35 35
Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

2 Peter 3:7-12
By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare. 11 Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives 12 as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. That day will bring about the destruction of the heavens by fire, and the elements will melt in the heat.

We don’t know when this will happen. Maybe, it will be through a nuclear war or the like.
 
However as long as the earth endures, the things mentioned in Genesis 8.22 will never cease. This includes the time of seed time and harvest. This is a rule placed by the Lord and this principle is applicable for all living beings on earth. God first created his creations and then he established the seed principle to ensure the continuation of all his creations, to sustain His creation. God created only once, but for any of his creations to sustain, they require generations and reproduction. The secret of the reproduction is the seed planted inside each one. 

Ecclesiastes 3:2 says, ‘a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,’

Acts 17:26 says, ‘From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.’

From one man, God created all the nations and people who inhabit the earth. He appointed a time for their birth and death in history. Jacob says in the Old Testament, that I came alone but now you’ve made a community of me, giving me generations. Out of Jacob came Joseph, who went alone to Egypt married a woman there and had children. From Jacob’s other eleven sons came several more kids and generations and finally when they all came out of Egypt after 400 years there were lakhs of people. We can therefore conclude by believing that this principle of seedtime and harvest, is not just applicable for plants and animals but very true for human beings as well.

Jesus chose twelve disciples but on Pentecost day, the 120 who were gathered in the upper room multiplied and produced many godly generations.
