Uplifting Love
2 Timothy 3 talks about people being self-centred and only caring about themselves.
(1) But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. (2) People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, (3) without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, (4) treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— (5) having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
We should definitely love ourselves! We should not have self-hatred. But bear in mind the words in the Scripture.
Matthew 22:37 says Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
We live in an age that promotes self-love. Though we should learn to love ourselves, we should not do it to an extreme level. We should not forget others and ignore helping others because we are too caught up in ourselves.
John 15:15 says I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you.
Jesus didn’t choose only the high and mighty, He chose to share His Father’s secrets to the lowly people living a very different life. He held them close to His heart and invited them in and brought them to His Father. This is called selfless love - a love that helps upgrade others and takes them out of dire situations in life.
John 12:26 says Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
There is nothing greater or bigger than God’s heart! We cannot begin to fathom the love of God with our brains. It goes beyond everything we know and understand.
2 Corinthians 5:14 says For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.
The foundation of Christian ministry is love! A ministry which does not come out of love is not a ministry.
Matthew 14:14 says When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick.
Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
God will not change and we cannot change Him. He does not have any mood swings and is not bipolar with His behaviour. He also does not go back on His words! We see instances of His never changing loving and compassionate nature in the Scripture. He is dependable and someone we can always count on for being compassionate, loving and He will not change! Eras after eras, God remains the same. Friends may come and go but God is forever in our lives!
Matthew 14:13 says When Jesus heard what had happened, he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns.
Over here we see that Jesus was withdrawing for a time of solitude but upon seeing the crowds that had approached him, he felt compassion and went back and served them.
John 21:25 says Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.
God is not a miser!
Philippians 4:6 says Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
How do we know that our prayer has reached God in heaven? It is simple, we will feel the peace of God in our hearts!
