Discern The Devil’s Voice
This week we have been focusing on the voices that guide us in our lives.
Mark 4:24 says “Consider carefully what you hear,” he continued. “With the measure you use, it will be measured to you—and even more.
Romans 10:17 says Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
We had discussed the different voices we hear around us. And behind each voice, there is a person involved. The voice we should listen and follow primarily in our lives is the voice of God. We can hear 4 types of voices;
We need a course correction in our lives in order to listen to the voice of God, discern God’s voice and obey His voice. We have a price to pay for the voice of God. God speaks to us in many ways. He majorly speaks to us through the Word of God these days, it is rare to hear His audible voice. God can speak to us in the spirit, through ministers, men of God, prophets, situations, messages, etc. What we need are ears that will listen which means we need to be ready to follow his voice, and ready to listen and obey His voice, and pay the price.
John 10:27 says My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
Psalm 46:10 says He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
The world is very noisy and it is a huge distraction and disturbance in our lives which hinders us from hearing the voice of God. It is only when we cut off all the distractions and disturbances, will we be able to hear the voice of God.
Never stop hearing God’s voice!
Beware of any voice that contradicts the Word of God! This voice can be deceptive or cause doubt with the Word of God. You can discern this only if you know the Word. If you are constantly in touch with a friend in your life, always having calls, etc. you will be able to recognise and understand that it is your friend’s voice no matter where or what the situation. Similarly, if you always listen to, read the Word of God, you will be able to understand and discern His voice at any time! The basic requirement is to understand the voice of God in our lives, and for that we need to have a daily Bible study without fail. The Word of God should reside in our spirit man.
In Matthew 3, when Jesus got baptised, he heard the voice of God.
Matthew 4:3 says The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.”
One thing we should keep in mind is that along with the Word of God, the devil puts doubtful thoughts into our lives. The devil is the source of all lies. The devil is nicknamed the ‘father of lies’.
John 8:43-44 says (43) Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. (44) You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
If we need to understand the voice of the devil in our lives, we need to have our foundation in the Word of God and have clarity in the Word. The devil tries to create doubts about your self-worth. The devil has a lie producing factory which is at work all the time. If you are a child of God, the devil will question your identity. He will bring about an identity crisis in your life. Lie is the native language of Satan. Professionally the devil is a liar, an accuser, a killer.
John 8:44 clearly states that the devil is a liar.
Revelation 12:10 says Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Messiah. For the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down.
Here the devil is being called an accuser.
John 10:10 says The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Over here, the devil is called a thief, destroyer, and killer. He is an evil being and an evil spirit. It is with this intention that he approaches us. He wants to destroy entire humanity.
The Word of God is a weapon which we can use against the devil and his schemes.
