Fire Test
1 Timothy 6:17 “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.”
God blesses us with all things, he is not stingy with His gifts towards us.
1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.”
This is how much the Father loves us and will bless us.
In Luke 15:11-32, we read about the prodigal son. This is a story of a Father that has a great love for his son. This is how our Heavenly Father is with us as well. He lavishes love upon us.
1 Corinthians 3:10-17
We read here that Paul talks about the kingdom of God where Jesus is the foundation and the chief cornerstone. Our foundation is Christ! No one can move this foundation. To move the foundation, the whole building must collapse. No one can change the foundation that is Jesus.
Verses 12-15 If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14 If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.
There are many wrong teachings about this passage. Some people think that after death, each person is thrown into a fire or purgatory, and then they will go to heaven. Paul isn’t talking about any of that here. He is talking about “that Day”, it is one day. With a capital ‘D’, Paul is talking about the Judgement Day.
In the school system, all grades have one final exam at the end of the year. And everyone knows that this will come, right from the start. Just like this, the Bible tells us that there is a “Judgement Day” for ALL people.
Hebrews 9:27 “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgement”, on judgement day, each person's work will be judged for its quality. If the work survives, the builder is rewarded, if not the builder will suffer loss, but because its foundation is Christ- the immovable and immortal foundation- the builder will still be saved.
In Revelation 1:14, it is written; “His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
John saw a vision of heaven and he saw Jesus with hair like wool and eyes like fire. Before Jesus’ crucifixion, John saw Jesus transfigure. His face shone like the sun, and his clothes became as white as the light.
But in the island of Patmos, when he saw Jesus again, he saw a different vision of Him. He was no longer a Son of Man who walked on earth and was crucified. This was the exalted Judge that He saw. Jesus continues to analyse the different churches and give his judgements about them. In the book of Revelation, we see Jesus as the judge.
In His second coming, this is how He comes! It is the fire from Jesus’ eyes that tests our work. He sees all our intentions and actions. With what motive did you serve Him, what were you thinking when you tithed, what did you pray for? He sees and judges it all on that Day. If your works for the Lord are with quality, they will survive the Day. If not, they will be burned up. If you prayed to show your family, if you read the Bible merely as a ritual, if your heart was not in your works for God- all of this will be burned up.
But we have one hope- the person will not be burned up if their foundation is Christ. You will not lose your salvation if you believe in Jesus and He is your foundation.
God blesses us with all things, he is not stingy with His gifts towards us.
