Your Life Will Be Fruitful
Here are some facts regarding humility:
1. Humility is essential for blessings
You need humility in order to receive anything, not just from God, but even from humans.
Micah 6:8
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
One requires humility in order to walk with God. Though being the topmost personality, God is most humble. If you take all of God’s mighty creation in this whole universe, what is mankind; and yet, He’s mindful and cares for us - the Sovereign God considers each one of us! For the greatest person to care for the smallest person is a sign of great humility.
Psalm 8:4
What is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?
What does the Lord require of you?
2. Humility is fertile and fruitful
Where there’s humility, there’s fruitfulness. People who have lived the most fruitful lives in this world were greatly humble; Jesus ranks first among all of them. Hagar probably was humble in that first phase that she caught Sarah’s attention and got an entry to such a privilege to bear an offspring, but later she developed pride .
Born into slavery, Booker T Washington became the first leader of the new Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, an institute for black higher education. He called for Black progress through education and entrepreneurship.
Shortly after he took over the presidency of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, he was walking in an exclusive section of town when he was stopped by a wealthy white woman. Not knowing the famous Mr. Washington by sight, she asked if he would like to earn a few dollars by chopping wood for her. Because he had no pressing business at the moment, Professor Washington smiled, rolled up his sleeves, and proceeded to do the humble chore she had requested. When he was finished, he carried the logs into the house and stacked them by the fireplace. A servant girl recognized him and later revealed his identity to the lady.
The next morning the embarrassed woman went to see Mr. Washington in his office at the Institute and apologised profusely. “It’s perfectly all right, Madam,” he replied. “Occasionally I enjoy a little manual labour. Besides, it’s always a delight to do something for a friend.” She shook his hand warmly and assured him that his meek and gracious attitude had endeared him and his work to her heart.
Not long afterward she showed her admiration by persuading some wealthy acquaintances to join her in donating thousands of dollars to the Tuskegee Institute. An act of humility had indeed opened a great door for Mr. Washington. He attained great heights and became an author, orator and had the ear of the powerful in the America of his day, including presidents. Humility is fertile and fruitful.
3. Humility, if not careful, may give birth to pride
Genesis 16:4-5
He slept with Hagar, and she conceived. When she knew she was pregnant, she began to despise her mistress. Then Sarai said to Abram, “You are responsible for the wrong I am suffering. I put my slave in your arms, and now that she knows she is pregnant, she despises me. May the Lord judge between you and me.”
After receiving blessing, she forgot her servanthood. Always remember that we are servants of God.
Q. How much can God bless you?
A. To the point you can handle it right!
We often miss our blessings due to our lack of humility.
Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.
Proverbs 29:23
A person’s pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honour.
