Have You Discovered Your Life’s Mission?
We have been going through the series “7 areas of success in life”.
Today we’ll be looking at the last aspect in the series, our life’s mission.
Our life’s mission is something that requires a lot of thought and understanding. A normal person who is living from one day to the next doesn’t usually give any thought to their life’s mission. They go about their daily activities until their last breath. But, unlike that, we are all people made with a godly purpose and plan. Although we tend to live our lives like everyone else in this world, we should know and understand that God does have a plan for our lives. He has a mission for us and we should find it out.
We should have a successful life’s mission. This doesn’t mean being successful in only one area or aspect of your life but in all of the 7 areas of your life. Each person has a mission that is beyond their daily activities and the natural course of their life. This is a specific mission that God has in store for them.
There are multiple aspects to the mission that God has in store for a person. One of these is our job and work. Now a job is something we do to live here on Earth but work is different from that. Work is something that God has given us as our mission while we are here on Earth.
In the Gospel of John, we read verses where Jesus talks about the work that He does which the Father has entrusted Him. These works stand as a testimony for people to see so that they can believe in Jesus.
Another time Jesus tells His disciples that doing the will of the Father is His food (John 4:32-34). This shows us that work is something important that God has entrusted us with. It is something that is God inspired.
We are to work diligently and ethically using the skills and talents that God has given us so that He is glorified.
When we do our jobs and our work that God has entrusted us with in a manner pleasing to God, He will be glorified. God provides us with the grace to do so. Fulfilling this is a key ingredient in a successful life.
2 Thessalonians 3:10-11 For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: “The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies. (NIV)
The above verses show the importance of keeping oneself occupied with work. In fact, Paul says that if you do not work, you should not be eating. God has a purposeful and prosperous plan for each and every person’s life.
Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD,” plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (NIV)
This is a well-known verse that we read in the book of Jeremiah. When God spoke to Jeremiah, he was a young lad. God revealed the plans He had for Israel to him so that he can tell the people. This shows that God can call anyone irrespective of their age. Just as God had a plan and purpose for Jeremiah, He has the same for us. And all His plans are good. The only person who has bad plans for us is the devil.
In the first chapter of the book of Job we read about how God had blessed Job. He had everything that he needed. Seeing all this, the devil came and brought about destruction and calamity in Job’s life. But at the end of the book of Job, we read how God brings Job out of his lowest moments in his life and blesses him with double of what he initially had. All this shows that God works for the good of His people and He has good plans for each one.
You are created with a divine mission already prepared by God; custom designed by God himself.
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. (NIV)
We are created in Christ so that we can do the good works that God had already planned for us. God had already planned what each one of us has to do before He created everything.
Success comes when you surrender your plans to God.
Oftentimes we have our own plans for ourselves. This plan is probably not what God has planned for us. Finally, it ends up as us having a plan for ourselves, God having a plan for us and the devil having his own plan to ruin our lives. In the face of all this, success comes when we submit and surrender our plans to God.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do, and he will establish your plans (NIV)
The above verse shows us that we have to submit and surrender our plans to God and He will reveal His perfect plan for our lives. God will bring success to the desires and plans aligned with His will.
Psalm 20:4 May he give you the desire of your heart and make your plans succeed. (NIV)
Jeremiah 33:3 Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. (NIV)
God is not a petty God. If we ask Him, He will answer us. If we surrender ourselves and ask God to reveal His plan and purpose for our lives, He will show us and guide us in the path we have to take. God can reveal it to us in multiple ways but He will reveal it to us.
Proverbs 19:21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the LORD’s purpose that prevails. (NIV)
We may have a lot of plans and thoughts about ourselves but ultimately it is God’s purpose that prevails. So, it will be wise if we surrender our plans to God and let His purpose come to pass in our lives. Embrace God’s agenda for our lives.
Success lies in aligning with God’s eternal purpose and not just personal ambition.
What we have for our lives is an ambition. It could be a goal for becoming something here on Earth. But what God gives us is a vision. Lasting success comes not from personal ambition but from God’s purpose in our lives.
