Now Is The Day Of Salvation
We are living in a time of God’s favour. Many people are still not aware of this. God’s calendar is different from ours. We often refer to it as Chronos time. Chronos time is actually a very small part of infinity.
In this New Testament time and age, everything is free. Jesus paid for it all. It is a time of mercy and grace. We do not need to live in guilt and sin.
2 Corinthians 6:2 ‘For he says, “In the time of my favor I heard you, and in the day of salvation I helped you.” I tell you, now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.’
In Matthew chapter 3, Luke chapter 3 and John chapter 1 we read when Jesus was baptised by John and he came out of the water, the Father’s voice saying - this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased.
It is through Jesus we approach the throne of God. Everything is through, by and for Jesus.
In the book of Luke chapter 19, we read about Zacchaeus.
Luke 19:1-10
Jesus entered Jericho and was passing through. A man was there by the name of Zacchaeus; he was a chief tax collector and was wealthy. He wanted to see who Jesus was, but because he was short he could not see over the crowd. So he ran ahead and climbed a sycamore-fig tree to see him, since Jesus was coming that way. When Jesus reached the spot, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, come down immediately. I must stay at your house today.” So he came down at once and welcomed him gladly. All the people saw this and began to mutter, “He has gone to be the guest of a sinner.” But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.” Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
Zacchaeus was a chief tax collector who was very wealthy. Zacchaeus did not need healing or financial blessing.
Nevertheless, he wanted to see Jesus. He had a desire in his heart.
We need to understand an important lesson from this, no matter how much of an important person one is, even if he has everything in abundance, he still needs Jesus. Whether you are a President or a businessman, or a doctor, you need Jesus to be saved.
Zacchaeus did not have a need, but he just wanted to see Jesus. He wanted to know Jesus. He ran and climbed up a sycamore fig tree. In today’s term imagine Zacchaeus to be the Commissioner of the Income Tax Department. Instead of walking like a very important person who has come to meet Jesus, he ran and climbed the fig tree.
Jesus knew Zacchaeus already. He called him by name. Zacchaeus came down the tree and welcomed Jesus to his home. People hated Zacchaeus, but Jesus loved him.
People began to comment that Jesus had gone to be the guest of a sinner.
But immediately Zacchaeus replied “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four times the amount.”
In the presence of Jesus he started repenting. He was made aware of his wrongs.
When Jesus comes, everything changes, His presence changes you.
Salvation has come to your house too today. Jesus also added his mission statement in the end - “For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
