WHAT KIND OF HOUSE ARE YOU BUILDING?
WHAT KIND OF HOUSE ARE YOU BUILDING?
WHAT KIND OF HOUSE ARE YOU BUILDING?
In Matthew 7, Jesus shows us many contrasts: true prophets and false prophets, narrow gates and wide gates, true and false disciples, and wise and foolish builders.
Jesus gives us the steps to identify what is right and wrong and follow in the right way.
Matthew 7:24-27
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
This passage talks about the wise and foolish builder.
Jesus says that a person who obeys the Lord is like a wise builder that built their house on a rock. They have a strong foundation that can overcome all trials and turbulence.
Contrastingly, someone who doesn’t practice what the Lord says, is like a foolish builder that builds their house on sand. When trials and turbulence come, this house falls with a great crash because it has a very weak foundation.
A wise man builds his house on a rock. A foolish man builds his house on sand.
When building a house, it must be built on a strong foundation, so it will not be shaken. In our practical lives, this strong foundation is obeying the Lord. A person that hears the Word and moreover, obeys it and lives it out, has a strong foundation!
For example, there are some people who go to church and feel satisfied with that alone. When they go back home they live the way they want to. There are also people who don’t pray to receive the Holy Spirit and be led by Him. These people know the Word and what it commands, but choose to ignore it in their daily lives. It is not enough to simply have faith, but we must work out our faith in our daily lives.
James 2:26
“For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”
Psalm 116:8-9
8 For you, Lord, have delivered me from death,
my eyes from tears,
my feet from stumbling,
9 that I may walk before the Lord
in the land of the living.
