excellence in work
Focus word: excellence in work
Focus verse: Proverbs 22:29 “Do you see someone skilled in their work? They will serve before kings; they will not serve before officials of low rank.”
Declaration: Excellence distinguishes me today; God uses my skill to open new doors of influence.
Excellence is a skill developed through daily discipline.
Proverbs 22:29 talks about a person skilled in their work.
Skill is rarely accidental. It is refined through learning, practice, correction, and persistence.
Ecclesiastes 10:10 “If the ax is dull and its edge unsharpened, more strength is needed, but skill will bring success.”
If our skill is sharpened, that brings success.
2 Timothy 2:15 “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”
Proverbs 27:17 “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”
Excellence grows where laziness is rejected. Beauty comes from hours of hidden practice. Gift may begin the journey, but discipline develops it.
Excellence honours God in ordinary tasks
Honouring God in all the small things is what brings excellence. Many people think only public ministry matters. This is foolishness. The Bible says whatever you do, do it as for the Lord. We need to show excellence in the things that no one sees us do.
Colossians 3:23 “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Matthew 25:21 “His master replied, 'Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come.”
Even cleaning up at church gathers the reward of serving publicly! Every task is equally important to God. So show excellence in even the small things.
Unseen excellence supports visible beauty. God sees the quality of what others overlook.
Excellence creates credibility and opens doors
Excellence becomes the language that opportunity understands. Joseph’s diligence while being a slave, brought attention to the pharaoh! Daniel’s excellence brought him before kings.
Genesis 41:39-41 “39 Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has made all this known to you, there is no one so discerning and wise as you. 40 You shall be in charge of my palace, and all my people are to submit to your orders. Only with respect to the throne will I be greater than you.”
Daniel 6:3 “Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.”
Luke 16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.”
Small mistakes and inaccuracies keep doors closed. Precision opens doors.
Excellence must be joined to character.
Excellence without integrity is dangerous. Talent without humility is unstable.
Proverbs 11:3 “The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity.”
Psalm 78:72 “ And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them.”
Titus 2:7 “In everything, set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness.”
God values clean hands and skilful hands. Skill alone is not enough, it needs to be used and directed correctly. Excellence reaches higher when rooted in good character. Only then is it beneficial to society.
