Taste The Goodness of God
We must seek the Lord at all times and not just when we go through a crisis. God has revealed Himself through the scriptures and we can know His nature if we go back to His Word. A good relationship is one where we interact regularly.
The devil tries to misrepresent God but through the Word, we can see that God is good and there is no evil or darkness in Him. He is light, faithful, loving, kind, merciful. We see this through His Word.
Matthew 5:45
that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
God makes His rain fall down on the just and the unjust. This is the general goodness of God. God is fair to all people all over the world, irrespective of their race, tribe, nationality or religion. That's why Jesus, while He was in the form of man, revealed the Father. God makes the sun rise on the good and the evil. This is the general goodness of God. All kinds of people receive sunshine. He sends rain on the just and the unjust. God is not partial. God is good.
Psalm 145:9
The Lord is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.
God is good to all. We must keep making efforts to deeply know God. Jesus came to reveal the Father.
Luke 11:11-13
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”
Earthly fathers & parents, though sinful, desire to give the best to their children, so how much more will the heavenly father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. We have a shallow knowledge of the goodness of God. That is why we doubt the goodness of God.
Psalm 34:8
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Taste and see that the Lord is good. Taste means experiencing the Lord. We can know God through our experiences, always interacting with Him, walking with Him. Through our personal experiences we know of the goodness of God. When someone else enjoys a sweet or a delicacy, just by watching them eat, we will not know the taste. We have to taste it ourselves. Similarly, we must taste the Lord, or experience Him ourselves.
1 Peter 2:1-3
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind. Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.
Pure spiritual milk which is the Word of God. When we have this unadulterated pure Word, we can ourselves know of the goodness of God.
