You Can Finish Well Hebrews Chapter 10: Part 4

Hebrews 10:19- 25 ‘19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.’
In vs.19, it says that we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place. In the Old Testament, no high priest had the confidence to enter the Most Holy Place. What was the reason? No one was sure if they would return alive from the inner sanctuary. The priest who entered the inner sanctuary to offer sacrifices had a rope tied around his waist. If God was not pleased, then the priest would not return alive and hence the people outside the temple would pull on the rope and drag his body out.
So then how can we enter this Most Holy Place? We can enter because we have the blood of Jesus. This is our confidence.
Hebrews 4:16 ‘Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’
The blood of Jesus has the power to cleanse every sin right from Adam.
Philippians 3:3 ‘ Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.’
We boast in Jesus! We don’t approach the Most Holy Place by our own strength.
The author shows the similarity between the temple curtain that was torn in half from top to bottom to the body of Christ that was broken and bruised for us.
Matthew 27:50-51 ‘And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit. At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split’
We need to draw ourselves to God. The way is open before us.
Often people misguide us by telling us that we cannot go before God by ourselves. And that we need a mediator like the saints and prophets. And that we need to ask these saints to convey our message to God.
But the good news is that Jesus has gone before us and paved the way for us. We can go in his Name. We don’t need any other mediator.
In vs. 22 it says that we need to sprinkle the blood of Jesus on our hearts. At times we have trouble praying. We feel guilty of the sins that we have committed. That is the time we need to use the blood of Jesus to wash us completely.
Vs 23 – Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
He who promised is faithful!
Believing in God’s word is better than in man’s.
We also need to encourage people who are in need.
