How Did The Jericho Wall Fall?

Today we are looking more into the process of developing radical faith in our lives. This session we will look into the incident of the Jericho wall falling. Why did the Jericho wall fall? In the bible we can see this in chapter 6 in the book of Joshua . This wall was mainly destroyed to get hold of the land of Canaan by the Israelites.
I am referring not to that Jericho wall mentioned in the Old Testament but to all the obstructions or barriers that you are facing to prevent you to achieve your goal or mission and to reach your desired destination in this journey called life.

Let's look into the portion where Jericho wall is sited in the Bible

Joshua 6:1-5

Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in.
2 Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. 3 March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. 4 Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets.5 When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in

Many wonder how the wall collapsed? The sound that was produced by the harp may have resonated with the wall and made it collapse.
The steps that made this happen

  1. The gates of Jericho were securely closed. This was to keep away the Israelites. There were rumours for a very long period around 40 years that the Israelites would attack to capture Canaan so they closed and kept the gates safe. God said to Joshua that he had given to him this promise was enough to hold on to.
  2. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. This was a strategy given by God to do when they reach the Jericho wall
  3. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpet. This was also ordered by God as the blowing of the harp will make a loud sound and that will resonate and indeed cause the fall of the wall. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.
When we think from the Israelites point of view, they waited and travelled 40 years to get into the threshold of fulfilling the promise of God .When they reached that they saw a huge wide well constructed wall - Jericho wall. God said that it will fall and they just believed that.

We can all understand that and apply to our lives when big problems come and trials are faced . Just do some of these strategies that was conveyed to Joshua and practised by Israelites to make the Jericho wall collapse

1.Hold on to the promises
God said i have delivered Jericho into your hands that was the promise he gave to Abraham from Genesis 12 onwards that he will make his descendents to promise land Canaan.

2. The power of repetition
This strategy is seen when God asked them to walk around the wall for six days. The power and strength is increased when you claim it all repeatedly and confess it repeatedly. We can repeatedly pray, repetitively praise God and confess God's promises.
3. Do not give in to any opportunity that thrives on negative thoughts or talks. They were asked to walk around the wall in silence or rather no talking and later shout the victory loud

 4.  Always have God's presence for everything and every time.
They carried an Ark and this symbolises God's presence.

5. Shout out the victory loud. God told them to shout out loud cry which was a cry to show victory and fulfilment of his promise with them .  We are all not fighting for victory but we are fighting from victory. Already they are victors and God is saying in his ultimate authority.
When they called their harp the sound made the Jericho wall collapse .How?  We just have to believe .They did just that, believed in promises given to them
This doubt about how this happened can be clarified by studying the verse.

Hebrews 11:30
By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the army had marched around them for seven days

Just faith is needed to make any wall in front of us that faith can be called the radical faith. We have to just believe in God extraordinarily. Then a supernatural activity will be revealed, something that is beyond natural realms. God is supernatural and he does miracles.
Most probably an earthquake may have occurred that made earth to suck back the wall and spare a portion because Rahab's house was located as he had promised not to harm that.
When we look in to New Testament also in

Acts 16 :22-26

The crowd joined in the attack against Paul and Silas, and the magistrates ordered them to be stripped and beaten with rods.23 After they had been severely flogged, they were thrown into prison, and the jailer was commanded to guard them carefully. 24 When he received these orders, he put them in the inner cell and fastened their feet in the stocks.25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone’s chains came loose.

The freedom to the captives and chained apostles Paul and Silas also happened due to an incident similar to this and earthquake.
