The Weakness Of The Flesh

Romans 6:19 ‘I am using an example from everyday life because of your human limitations. Just as you used to offer yourselves as slaves to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer yourselves as slaves to righteousness leading to holiness.’
Before getting saved, we were slaves to impurity. We have done an uncountable number of sins. But that is not the case after we received Jesus into our lives.
After getting baptised, we are no longer slaves to sin but to righteousness.
Galatians 5:17 ‘For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want.’
For those who are not saved, it is as if they are covered by an ocean of activities of the flesh. After being saved, a person can go back to the flesh or the sinful activities. We know that the slave-master is still alive.
While on this Earth, we will face desires that are contrary to the Spirit. God desires us to grow in the Word and Spirit. The flesh does not desire the things of God.
The spirit and flesh are always in conflict. Illustration : the spirit desires to pray for hours but the flesh feels tired and sleepy.
The flesh is at war with the Holy Spirit. The moment the Holy Spirit comes inside of us, the conflict between the spirit and flesh begins.
The moment you get a release from the reign and rulership of Satan, the conflict starts.
Now, just because we are still living in the flesh doesn’t give us a reason to sin. Also just because we are saved doesn’t mean we will never sin. It depends on who we submit our life to; the flesh or spirit.
Matthew 26:41 ‘“Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”’
We need to be careful. Your flesh is weak. Weak does not mean physically but spiritually. How do we know that there is a conflict? When we struggle to pray.
Philippians 3:3-9
‘For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.
But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in[a] Christ—the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.’
Who is the true circumcision? It is we who serve God by the Spirit, boast in Christ and put no confidence in flesh.
John 4:24 ‘God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.”’
Worship should be from the spirit, through the spirit and with the help of the spirit.
