Be Seated In Your Father’s Lap
The Word of God has life and is Spirit and it nourishes us spiritually.
As 1 Timothy 3:16 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”
So we need to listen to the word of the Lord, like Mary did. With keen attention she sat at the feet of Jesus watching his every facial expression and listened, she absorbed everything he said. Jesus was very impressed but Martha was not. Mary did not help her in the chores of the household but instead chose to listen to the word of God. Martha has two problems, one she was upset with God and second upset with her sister for her lack of help. Martha in fact asked Jesus to advise Mary on her behaviour.
Luke 10:41-42
“Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, 42 but few things are needed—or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
Jesus tells Martha, don’t fret over things. Don’t panic or worry. What Mary has gained during the time she listened to my word is blessed and no one can take that away from her. The revelations and the wisdom that Jesus shared with them and was absorbed by Mary would have an eternal impact on her life.
It is not merely enough to do a lot of things for God. But God wants you to spend time with him, be available to Him and enjoy his fellowship. After creating Adam and Eve, during the twilight time I believe that everyday God walked with them. All through the Bible we can see the strain that God has taken to be with us, to spend time with us. Oftentimes he wants to be with us and be close to us more than we desire to. In fact, he left all the privileges of heaven, came down to Earth to love with us, sharing our pain, our sorrows, while living like an ordinary human being.
The Bible is the Word, it reveals the heart of the Abba. If you read this Word, you are reading the heart of the Father.
God’s heart beats for us. In the book of Peter it is written that the Fathers heart is for no man to perish. Would any parents want to see any of their kids live in poverty and perish away. Our own parents bear such a burden when our lives are strained. In such situations they pray for us, often asking others to pray for us as well. Imagine then the heart of Godly Father, just how much he cares for you. How do you know that you are a Father? You know you are a Father if the children have enough space to swim in your hearts. Our Father knows that we were created from mud and dust. Our Father is very considerate with us. He gives us so many provisions and concessions and truly takes care of us and understands us.
Psalms 103:12-14 says, as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him; for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust.’
Psalms 103:5 says, ‘who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.’
Colossians 3:13 says, ‘Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’
Remember that you are forgiven in Christ. The time Jesus spent on earth was a transition period from the Old Testament era of the dispensation of Law to the New Testament period of the dispensation of Grace. In the Old Testament, forgiveness was conditional. We were forgiven only if we forgave others. But now, in Christ Jesus we are forgiven.
However if you want to enjoy the forgiveness of all your sins, you must believe in the truth that He forgives all our sins and have faith in Him who has forgiven you. If you understand the Fathers heart closely, intimately and fully, then you will never want to leave the lap of the Father.
Our Father is ready to listen to us, comfort us, hold us, and pamper us, but the problem is that we drift away from him.
Luke 15 narrates the story of the Prodigal son who left his Father to go with his inheritance and live in a faraway land. After the son left his Father, he squandered off his money. The moment he left his father’s house, his finances became lean, his body became lean and life too started fading away. This happened only because he left the Father who was his source and it was to his Father that all his comforts were tied to. However when he came back to his Fathers house, the supply was reinstated.
Luke 15:20 “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him.”
The Father was most willing to receive him. It is written that the Father ran to his son to welcome him home, back to his love and safety.
It is time for many of us to come back to the Fathers heart.
