God Holds Your Destiny
We continue last week’s series on ‘Offences, it’s Silent Trap and Cure’. Carrying and holding on to offences can be more damaging than black magic. Offences silently drain us, it creates a space for itself and silently erodes us. Offences can truly affect our whole being. Hence it’s important to respond rightly to offences as this is not an avoidable problem. We can choose to react to it in a biblical way. It’s important that we know how to react in the right way, as the hardest offences to forgive are from the closest people.
Today I want to talk to you about how no man other than God holds your destiny. We experience situations where we see people enjoy certain luxuries or perks which we should have enjoyed. This in turn results in bitterness and anger towards them. However the Bible says ‘promotion comes from the Lord.’ No man but God holds your destiny. When we believe in this fact, it gives us a greater sense of peace. Because our growth and promotion comes from the Lord. We all know the story of Mordecai, where Haman tried to kill him. But what Haman plotted against Mordecai, God used for his promotion and victory. The victory that God has destined for you will not be taken away by anybody. This is a promise from the Lord. All we need to hold on to the Lord and he will bring us victory in his time.
No man or devil can get you out of the will of God. If we live under the covenant and promise of God, then no man or devil can snatch us away from the Lord's plans.
1 Samuel 24:11 says, ‘See, my father, look at this piece of your robe in my hand! I cut off the corner of your robe but did not kill you. See that there is nothing in my hand to indicate that I am guilty of wrongdoing or rebellion. I have not wronged you, but you are hunting me down to take my life.’
Context is that King Saul is running behind David, his daughter’s husband, to kill him. Even though Saul was the anointed King, because of his wrongdoing, he fell out of favour with God and chases behind David, whom Saul is jealous of. At one point of time David runs into a cave and so does Saul. But Saul is unaware of David’s presence in the same cave. David could have killed Saul easily, but instead of doing that, David merely cuts off a small piece of cloth from Saul's robe showing that he could have killed him but chose to let go. But David later felt guilty even of this, as Saul was after all his father in law and an anointed man of God. In this situation, the person who was deeply offended was Saul but the one who repents and confesses is David.
Repentance and forgiveness is key. A soft heart is one that can quickly repent and forgive, a heart that pleases God. Often we see people quick to join church communities, but when they realise that there are differences in opinions or a lifestyle change that they need to make, then they withdraw from these communities. This is a ploy of the devil.
Psalms 92: 13 says, ‘Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.’
The word ‘planted’ is key. It is only those who are planted and rooted in the house of the Lord that will flourish. It is only if we are steadfast and rooted in the house of the Lord, will we then see the end result. God often plants us in one community, and always remember God's ways are higher than your ways. And when he plants us in a community he doesn’t intend for us to move from that community. When someone decides to move away from a community, and goes to another one, chances are that they will encounter the same problems twice its force in the new community. It’s important to be planted in the house of the Lord and it is only then that you will bear much fruit. It’s also important to note how one leaves a fellowship. If by any reason you need to leave a Christian fellowship, then the way you leave that fellowship will determine the way you enter the next one. The same principle is applicable in relationships as well.
Hebrews 12:15 says, ‘ See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.’
Two important aspects called out in this verse are - firstly, we must see to it that we don’t fall short of the grace of God. Secondly, no bitter root must grow that may cause trouble or defile.
Colossians 3:13 says, ‘Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.’
No matter the size or the magnitude of the problem, we must forgive each other.
Ephesians 4:31 echoes the same ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.’
Our success lies in forgiving others. It is easier to fight battles than to forgive. It takes courage to go to war but it takes greater courage to forgive a wound.
Building a city is easier than building a heart that has been broken. Anyone can strike back, only a strong can lay down their weapon to avenge and leave it all in God's hands. In essence, forgiveness is very difficult.
1 Peter 5:6 says, ‘Humble yourselves,, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time
