The Mediator Killed. For Whom? | Hebrews 9 (Part 6)

07 December, 2021

Hebrews 9:11-15 ‘11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God! 15 For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance—now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.’

1. Christ came as the High Priest of the good things that are now already here.

Because Christ came, only good things have come to us.

2. He went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle.

3. This tabernacle is not made with human hands.

Even though Solomon built a great temple, Jesus did not go through it. He went through a tabernacle that is much greater. A tabernacle that is not touched by human hands. Jesus as our high priest ministers in a superior sanctuary.

4. It is not a part of this creation.

The tabernacle is not on the earth. It is not made with anything from the earth or its products.

5. Jesus Christ did not enter by means of the blood of goats or calves.

6. He entered the most holy place for all by his own blood.
In the time of Aaron, the blood from the animals was drawn in the outer court and then taken into the inner sanctuary. Similarly, the earth is the outer court and then there is a midheaven and then comes the third heaven.

Jesus shed his blood on earth, and then went through the midheaven to the most Holy place in the third heaven.

Jesus with his own blood saved us from the acts that lead to death. He has restored our damaged conscience. He has given us eternal salvation.

7. Jesus is the mediator of the New Covenant.

Summary:
A man was passing by and saw two people arguing. He went as a mediator to stop their argument but instead the argument turned into a fight. This man was caught in the middle and he ended up losing his life. The death of this man left an impact on the two persons and they became close acquaintances. This is what Jesus did for us. He died on the cross being a mediator for us. Take a few minutes to watch this episode on the study of the book of Hebrews chapter 9.
