Where Is God When I Suffer?
We will start by looking into the story of a Netherland born lady named Corrie Ten Boom. She passed away in 1983. She and her family served the Lord fully and played a significant part in protecting the Jews in Nazi Germany. They succeeded in saving many Jews but they were finally arrested by the Nazi police.
Corrie Ten Boom said in a speech, " God was good when he allowed my sister Betsy to starve to death before my very eyes in a German concentration camp. I remember on one occasion when I was very discouraged there, everything around was dark and darkness in my heart and I remember telling Betsy that God has forgotten us but she said, " Never!," He has not forgotten us. Remember His word, as the heavens are high above the earth so great is his steadfast love to those who fear him".
Even while starving she only saw the goodness of God. Later in life Coorie settled in the USA and continued her ministry to different parts of the world.
Remember one thing. Despite our circumstances if our heart is not in the right place we will never see the goodness of God. We must never question God's goodness no matter the circumstance. Satan is forever trying to make us focus on all the evil and sadness in the world and cause us to blame God. This destroys our relationship with God.
Look at plants and trees, all are rooted in mud but from them shoots branches that produce beautiful flowers and fruits. Similarly the whole world is in the hand of the evil one and is full of wickedness but as children of God we must stand steadfast and produce goodness like how God desires of us.
In situations like war, human trafficking, starvation, murder and even in the case of the current pandemic we question God. However, God is not the author of this evil, it is done by satan . The whole world is under the authority of satan. God is never the source of anything evil. Most natural calamities like flood, tsunami all are a result of human mishandling.
Luke 13:1
Now there were some present at that time who told Jesus about the Galileans whose blood Pilate( had mixed with their sacrifices
Here is a scenario when Pilate mixed human blood with sacrificial blood as he was controlled by the devil but many questioned God's intervention or lack thereof.
Luke 13:4
'Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them: do you think that they were worse offenders than all the others who lived in Jerusalem?'
In Siloam a tower fell and many were killed; here too many questioned God.
This is what we see most commonly these days too. When evil comes we ask God if he allowed it to happen? Which is wrong! God never allows it. The devil comes to steal, destroy and kill but God gives abundant life.
Job 1:20
'At this, Job got up and tore his robe and shaved his head. Then he fell to the ground in worship'
Job lost everything except his life. What was his response? He fell on the ground and worshipped God and said God is good all the time. He knew God's character. His attitude towards God was right. This should be our attitude too.
