The Contradictions Between Law and Grace

What we learnt previously is that we cannot use God’s grace as a license to sin over and over again. 

Romans 6:1-2
Dead to Sin, Alive in Christ
6 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

What we learn in —— is pivotal in bringing us deeper in our spiritual lives. 
Sometimes it works as a tutor or sometimes as a guardian. 
There is a :-
•Moral Law
•Civil Law 
•Ceremonial Law

Various religions also have such laws. 
What we’re going to discuss today is law vs grace. 

1) The Law is Holy,Just and Perfect. 

Romans 6:16
16 Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one you obey whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
What is Grace? 
Grace is inherited Favour.
Grace is favour what we don’t deserve.
We don’t get grace by doing anything, it’s God’s blessing. 

2) The law says “obey me and live”

Romans 10:5-15
5 Moses writes this about the righteousness that is by the law: “The person who does these things will live by them.”

John 5:24
24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

3) The law condemns us and sets up a standard that we are to fulfill.
The law punished us when we go against the law. 
No one on earth could ever stand up to the standard that God set. 

What is Grace? 
Grace scars the sinner and help home to like a righteous life.

4) The law could never justify a sinner. 
Grace through Faith can bring justification to the sinner but law can never. 
God gives us grace just as if we have never sinned. 

John 5:24
24 “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

Romans 3:24
24 and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

The law was made to show our transgressions. 

Grace was given because God loved the world as sinners. 

John 3:16
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

The law was given by Moses.

John 1:17
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

But Grace came through Jesus.

We cannot mix Law and Grace, they cannot go together. 

Galatians 5:4
4 You who are trying to be justified by the law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace.

•A person can call from Grace. Those who are led by the spirit are not under the law. 

Can you guess what the timeline of the Law was? 
The dispensation of the law was from Moses to Jesus. 
Not before that and not after that. 

What happens if we go under the Law again? 
1) We will be separated from Christ 

2) We will fall from grace

3) We will be cursed.
