Saving Grace

Grace has two faces
 
1 Peter 1.3-5  3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
 
There are two things that need special mention: new birth and shielded by God's power.
Grace has two aspects like the two sides of a coin: 

1. Saving Grace
2. Sustaining Grace

 
What is saving grace?
It is the initiatory act of God to forgive and give us salvation as a gift. Here he freely forgives our sins and gives us the free gift of eternal life. This is a one time event. This happens the moment we accept Jesus as our Saviour and our spirit becomes born again.
 
Titus 2.11 For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.
Grace is available at all times to everyone. But the saving grace of God becomes part of your life only when you accept and surrender to God and experience your new birth. 
 
When saving grace comes upon you, 

1. You get forgiveness from all your sins 
2. You get the free gift of eternal life.

 
We must not take our salvation for granted. This can be illustrated by a simple example.
Take the case of a Father who had only one daughter whom he dearly loved and she was raped and killed by a man. How will he respond to the situation?

1. Kill him
2. To bring him before the law that he may be punished 
3. To forgive him and let him go
4. To forgive him and adopt him as his own son

God our father chose the fourth option for all of us. According to Romans 3.23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” and Romans 6.23 “ For the wages of sin is death”, we are all meant to die in the eternal fire. But God delivered us from the eternal fire. We are all guilty by law but he doesn't take us to be judged by law. He did not just forgive us and let us go , instead he forgave us and made us his beloved children. 
 
Saving grace is not a light thing. The day we are saved is a blessed and happy day in our lives. We must be so grateful to God for saving us from eternal destruction and making us worthy of salvation.
